Ireland's Finest!
What would be the best lamp to use when walking around the fields at night trying to shoot foxes with a shotgun, I no its not ideal but its the only way I can do it currently! I understand the typical foxing lamp can only be used when pluggded into 12v power source! etc..
steve_b_wales
I have two lamps which I use when foxing etc. The best one is a Cluson Blazerlite 2 million candle power. It's small, lightweight, and can easily be fitted on top of your scope by means of a bracket bought seperately. The filters are also easy to fit/take off and are reasonably priced. My other one is a Lightforce Blitz 1 million candle power. This is an good lamp, with an adjustable beam that, when at it's smallest setting, can pick up foxes etc up to 800 yards+ when used in total darkness. Steve. Dekers
There are lots of lamps you can use with a battery pack, hand held, or you can even get fixings to mount them direct to a shotgun. What is best is a personal thing, and whilst a big bright light may help you see them miles away you will still have to get them very close if you are using a shotgun! Seems to me any reasonable light (no monster required) will do, and plenty of practice calling!

There is a difference between shooting foxes on the lamp with a shotgun as opposed to using a rifle. A shotgun can be just as effective but you need to get the fox to within a reasonably close range so a higher powered lamp might not be as warranted as it would be for a rifle! Maybe you should be thinking about improving your calling while using a shotgun rather than spending out on what might be an overpowered lamp! (By the way, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with your calling I am sure that it is very good, I was just using that to illustrate my point)

Agree with Frenchieboy, maybe your calling just needs to be fine tuned, what do you use to call? I have called foxes into 20 yards whilst using a Lightforce SL170 so varies from fox to fox! Ireland's Finest!
Thanks for the replies lads, Im just looking for a few names of lamps that will last a few hours while I walk around the fields at night. I wouldnt be intersested in mounting one onto my shotgun. I just need a quality lamp that's handheld.
Ireland's Finest!
I picked up a "U-caller" lamp today for 60 euro. Anybody have one, good or bad?
