ferretmanabu
I have a lightforce lamp. The fuses keep blowing, either the one in the cigar lighter socket or the one in the actual wiring from cigar lighter bit to the battery. It lasts about fifteen minutes before fuse blows. I'm thinking of cutting out all the wiring with the fuses in and just plugging the lamp straight to the battery. Any problems if I do this? Thanks. swiss.tony
You might need a fire exstinguisher. If you do that check the switch , fuze size is correct most people on here have re-wired there lamps or up rated the fuse hope that helps
Luckyshot
None of my 3 lightforce lamps run with a fuse all direct to battery. Never had any problems in doing it this way

Mungler
We had the same problem. We swapped out the in line fuse with a spent HMR case. That was a year ago and no problems and no fires. Job jobbed.
al4x
How did you do this? was already on the truck but basically a feed directly from the battery to a switch on the dash then on to a supply at the back of the truck, used to be for a flashing light on top. Easy to Isolate from the dash and fused by the battery

That was a year ago and no problems and no fires. Job jobbed. Genius idea. I'll have to give it a go. Dammit, spent HMR cases always pop up in the wahing machine or dryer when you least want them to and then when you need one, not one in sight. I'll have to just wait til im next out. apache
Do you know why we have fuses? They are there basically to put a weak link in the chain and sacrifice themselves for a reason. What is the rating of the lamp and of the fuse?
ferretmanabu
Fuse is 15 amp. I replaced it with a 13 amp (couldn't find a 15) and left the light on. Fifteen minutes later the fuse went again. I've now replaced the fuse with the HMR case and it works a treat. The cigaretter lighter bit doesn't heat up so much now. I've had the lamp on for forty minutes now and no smell, no fire. Previously with the normal fuse there was a burning smell too. I'm not too good with electrics but if my lamp can stay on for forty minutes, I'm happy enough.
codling99
to test wires you need a cheap multimeter, only bout a tenner, switch meter to continuity test(bleeper) hold one prong on one wire and one on other wire and if it bleeps their touching somewhere.at least then you know theres a problem with one of the connections or the switch then, shouldnt really blow fuses when hot. What is the rating of the lamp and of the fuse? its only 12 volt electrics so you won't do too much harm, lightforce fuses seem prone to blowing when the cigarette socket works loose and breaks contact intermittantly, had mine without their fuse for going on 5 years and not replaced a bulb in that time so it can't be too bad
