feeding ducks

Feed around the shallow margins of the pond. Feed as often as you can; we try to feed every evening if possible. We use barley or wheat, also chopped up crab apples, veg peelings & rotten potatoes are good to use as they are free and helps to supplement the grain. We usually shoot our pond every 2/3 weeks and don't shoot too late or the ducks will keep coming later.

Good luck ;)

Barley is the best feed if you can get it, feed it around the edge of the water and the shallow margins in the afternoons to attract ducks in the evening. I find the auto feeders work well as they reduce the amount of disturbance at the pond and they feed every day.

All good advice given, feed every afternoon or evening, just before dark. The first night that ducks come and find nothing to eat, half of them will not come back the next night.

We have a small pond, just big enough for two guns to shoot, we have over 200 a night coming in. we have shot it twice so far, taking around 20 each time but leaving before full dark. The key is to feed well and don't over shoot it

We have a small pond too, but our area is not a great place for ducks, we have about 30/40 coming every night. We have only shot once, shot 6 ducks and left to let the rest come in to feed.

All the mentioned feeds work well, but try giving Millet a go, they go mad for the stuff. You can feed it in the shallows and just throw it onto the water you will find it will float for a certain amount of time, the duck just love hoovering up it off the surface. Not particually cheap £320 a ton for the last stuff we got. Also very good for Partridges :yahoo:

I know someone in North Suffolk near us who goes through 3 ton of that a week throughout the season......He does have plenty of dough though.
