scotland rifles
I want out last night and invited craigc from this forum along for his first shoot with me and a centre fire rifle, Well we popped up to a local shoot to check zero on the 3 rifles before we done some bunny bashing. Craig has his rather nice Annie 1517 and i had the sako quad in 17 with me too. the centre fire was my .20 tac mckillop rifles custom rifle, We got on site about 1930pm and set up the target and lamp for the zero session, i had changed ammo form 40gr Vmax to 39 gr blitz kings in the 20 tac and needed to do the checking before we hit the other permissions. well i took out the 20 tac and slid in the 1st round, just left of the bull, not bad for a warmer, needless to say i got it on target within 4 shots and set aside 5 rounds for Craig to have a go. he had 2 touching and thats not bad for his first time shooting a centre fire since leaving the army. so that done we set on with both the 17hmrs, soon those where on target too and we where ready to go, of we went to the first shoot and we where only there 2 mins and we had a nice set of eyes in the distance, Craig seeing that the charlie was a long way of got on with the calling so i could get the 20 out and ready, this charlie was not showing any interest at all but Craig kept it interested long enough for me to get out and take the shot free standing with just the elbow on the bonnet as support, Click of it went. ............... nice report back from the impact from the target and bullet, well it was that far we had to drive to get it, it was between 380 and 400 yards and was on the limits of my lamp,( just to mention to those that may jump at this, i have the confidence to shoot distances like this under the lamp as this is what i do 99% of the time pest and vermin control at night) when we got there i was looking in the wrong place Craig said it was further up the hill ? and he was right. I only have one picture just now but Craig took some more last night and will send them to me later, I was glad Craig was there to see the shot as i think some may have thought i was a porky pie'r, we then went to another shoot where Craig proved his own worth With some nice long shots with the HMR from the jeep taking a few bunnies, overall a great night out even if it got a bit cold and the bright moon light kept a few bunnies in doors, thank you for the company Craig i hope you had a good time, good shooting with the 20 by the way and your Annie shot like a dream too. bob. photos asap when i get the one of my phone and the ones from craigc. my phone photo. http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/1229/phoneones005.jpg Edited October 22, 2010 by scotland rifles

scotland rifles
great shooting! i have the same question as peltman. do you use bino's to check or just your scope? what magnification are you using? cheers i have a set of binos 7x40 and a spotter scope as mentioned above it would normaly be on the bonnet, but this guy was there last friday so i knew he would be around again. i confirmed the target on about 14 mag, took it back to about 8 mag (notch on mag ring points at 12 oclock) so i took the shot on 8 mag, i find if i try to take a shot under the lamp with more than 10 mag i makes the image shake like a dogs back legs when it's having a poo. bob. scotland rifles
Just speaking to a few lads on another forum about the range to target. taking in to consideration what the bullet dropped (more like 7" than 4) it puts the range to target about 350 yards, if this is the case im still happy with it, after all dead is dead, the bullet was a .20 cal 39gr blitz king with a MV of 3560 fps, zeroed at 1.5" high and with a estimated drop with a normal zero ( IE: spot on with no added height to POI)at 100 yards of just over 8" and i aimed at the eyes and it hit him in the wind pipe area destroying his spine, i think this is about the right distance. bob. craigc
hi well as scotland rifles said it went just that way we can't have been there for more than 2 mins and all he was doing was showing me where he had seen the fox last time he was there, and guess what he was there again first thing we seen was mister fox. as a few swear words came from bob mouth as he did not have the 20 tac out so a squeak I did why bob rushed to get his rifle rdy with my Annie in my hand I was just about to look through my scope and bang fox drops dead before he hit the ground. I was gob smacked when I found the fox at how far we had really moved to get the fox. with both of us both being ex forces we set about sorting out the range and we both came up with around 380 to 400 but from reading some of the post people saying it at 350 I would still say more but as bob nows where the shot was taken and where he fell I am sure he will laser it when he gets it back. I would just like to thank bob to a great nights shooting and look forward to a longer night out when he does not have to work after thanks again bob I had a great night

Blackbart
An amazing shot at 350 yards with only 8x ! I shoot a lot of foxes and a few over the magic 300 but thats on 18 or 20x and i can honestly say at 8x i would struggle to be able to definately say it was a charlie. Good shooting though if the range is right.

I use my Nightfoece on 10x mag most of the time and at 200 yards foxes are huge! the is no problem seeing what it is, I could see if it had all its teeth if he opened his mouth! We are using a lightforce 240 blitz aswell, that lamp makes a lot of difference. My Nikon peforms the same really.

gsm1968
Exellent shooting!! After all the time and money you have invested it must be a rewarding feeling. I would break my arm off patting my own back, if I pulled a shot off like that. To have the skill and confidence to successfully take that shot is what we all aspire to do. Oh!! And a IMSSU shooter would have done it at 700 yards off hand
