foxing the other night over in the wilds of herefordshire

blooded the rpa last night over at a mates permissions with him and my old man.

we pulled into a field got the lamp ready only to find it didnt work. after going back and to the battery under the bonnet the guy that serviced the

4x4 for my mate must have put the both leads back on the positive

lucky dave had some tools to sort it and then we where up and running

he took us on some new permission he has. which runs next to one of his other permissions. 1st field we spotted a fox but it was across a road on some other ground of his.

we tryed up there but the fox had gone away. dave then lamped the other side of the fields and we come across one. but he wasnt hanging about. the night was dead still and the moon was full so wasnt the best conditions maybe for lamping.

we went across to some other fields back on the otherside of the road again.

where dave was sure we would get a chance at mr fox. after calling for a bit on and off and a look through the gen2+ nightvision nothing showed. so had a quick look with the lamp.

sure enough a fox showed but was a good distance. and the other side of a fence. we called abit more and it was going from left to righ tthen was gone again. so we waited and then it paid off.

the fox was in the field we were in and it then come in abit. dave flicked lamp on the 22/250 barked and the instant thud come back from a hit to the front of the chest. a ranged 196 yards. no exit wound do to front of chest shot

we moved on and spotted two more on a very big field. they looked at the call but wasnt hanging about. they are very switched on dave said. more then likely due to the problem of poachers

on we went to a different farm again see one more but he was gone. so we went to the back to some more of the new permission. lamp on see one going up the fenceline. then its mate. the one wouldnt come in but the other like my hand calling

it shot in and dave shouted for to it. and it paused and then the 6br dropped it on the spot. a ranged 130 yards.

after that we called it a night but stopped off at some fields on the way back just in case.

a good night out in the fresh air. it was abit on cold side with sharp frost on the ground.

Well done Jay,a good night had by all

Andy

was a good night thanks andy. you been out much mate. how is the deer stalking going roe doe will be in seasons soon wont they ?

Well done Jamie.Would have liked to have seen your RPA in the pic mate-excellent set-up you got there.

i would have mate but after shooting the fox we left it to check down the field where there was a fox milling about. my gun was back in the bag due to my mate having the next shot. we went down the field but he wasnt about down there.

so we went to pick up the fox i had shot and i couldnt be bothered to get the rifle back out the bag :o

here is the rifle :good: it will be abit different soon. stock sprayed in matt olive green as its marked and im not keen on the current light grey / blue or whatever it is.

new fully adjustable 3 way alloy butt plate and a 10 moa rail.

im pleased with the accuracy so far. the old owner gave me the load for the rifle he found shot best in it. sub 1/4 inch at 100 yards using 50 grain nostler bullet, imr 4007ssc powder 39.5 grains, remmy brass, cci 200 standard large primer col 2.450 but im currently waiting for the heads ive ordered to come into the rfd i use. before i can use this load. i have all the gear just not the heads. the same weight blizking heads will prob do the same with this load but there all loaded up from my old rifle load below.

which is 50 grain blizkings, 35.5 grains of varget, nostler custom brass, cci benchrest large rifle primer, col 2.360 and the picture below is the group i got at 100 yards for 10 shots which isnt bad for load never used in the rifle before. i should have put a 5 pence piece next to it so its something to compare size against as its hard to tell when the picture is that close.
