Jacked work at 12ish on Friday with glorious sunshine and blowing a gale to have a couple of hours walking with the Browning.Home and changed and by the time i got to the place the rain was coming down in sheets. Its about 200 acres covered and with the wind the birds were providing some very sporting shots.Ended up with 11 pheas and a rabbit with one runner dodging Rab which we couldnt find.Ammo of choice was 28g Eley Superbs in 7.5s.After that i got Mac from school and headed to an old reservoir where i have shooting on the ground surrounding it.Usually get a good chance of a duck coming off just on dark and when we drove past there were easy a couple of hundred on it,mostly wigeon with a puckle mallard and tuffties.Only had a wee walk and on the way managed to drop a snipe and then got tucked into some cover when a cloud of about 30 wigeon came straight over. The first shot dropped two and the second connected with a single which just started rising straight up until he was way up and then turned and headed into the water. The shots moved a load more and with the next lot i dropped one with the first and missed with the second.Rab came back with the two dropped together, and i put him after the other with no luck.I was sure it was dead in the air but after 30 mins of looking there was still no sign. There is a burn runs below where it dropped and i can only think it was winged and made it to that.We walked round the water the next day to see if the one that made it back had died overnight but no sign of that either.Went to the MILs this morning and took the rifle as there was a young doe that was limping quite badly and usually hangs about on her own.As soon as we got there she was in the usual spot and there was no stalk needed. She was about 150 yards from the house and pretty straight forward. She seemed in good enough nick but with winter coming up if it is anything like last years she could have struggled. The foot joint was totally seized and no sign of recent damage. All in all a good freezer filling weekend.

you killed all them pheasants and the hare with 28g 7.5s?! some people would say you were crazy and iressponsible to do such a thing, but if you put that on them it will bring them down. nice to see not all out there are in the 36g 5 brigade for everything including snipe at 15 yards!
