barrelsniffer
So, its alright for the righteous british para to shoot human beings at 1.5 miles away who are defending their homeload. But its wicked for American hunters to shoot a bear at long range which is legal and legitimate in America hhmmmmmmmm !!!!! Let me think about that one. "Let you think about that one" ? Nothing to think about the guy was household cav and not para..but still snipers are there to do "just that" take long shots at the enemy, and when in the heat of battle, what would you do to defend the lives of innocent people and those of your army mates who are fighting for there lives ? From you reply i think i know. Also you know nothing about war..these scumbags are NOT defending there home land..most locals the ones who do have homes here dont want to fight they want peace its the foreign fighters who have no respect for life who will kill anyone to give them any gain in what they do..ie blow up/shootkill/maime innocents they will use kids aged 7-10 as suicide bombers..Does that sound like a real man defending his homeland ? NO....i could go on and on..but im just wasting my time explaining to you.

Let me think about that one. defending there homeland dont make me smile ? these are the same people that attack there own people ransack there villages. there not defending there country they just dont want different armys around the world coming in and making it right for the other people to live a normal life there. and not live in fear. you have insulted the memory of people from all the different countrys who have gone there to help and died trying. not just army people but aid workers and doctors. if these people as you say.... are defending there country why did they capture and kill aid workers etc.... who where only helping injuried people.. Blunderbuss
So, its alright for the righteous british para to shoot human beings at 1.5 miles away who are defending their homeload. But its wicked for American hunters to shoot a bear at long range which is legal and legitimate in America hhmmmmmmmm !!!!! Let me think about that one. I am going to completely ignore your ill informed comments about Afghanistan, I have lost mates there and it will wind me up too much to even try. But on a separate matter, can I ask you a simple question which gets right to the nub of why you've put peoples backs up? Do you understand the concept that a hunter is morally bound to do everything in his power to ensure his quarry is killed as swiftly and humanely as possible? If yes, how do you square that with deliberately extending shooting ranges to the point where the chances of inflicting crippling injury are increased massively? I admire precision marksmanship, and the guys in your link are undoubtedly skilled, but that kind of shooting belongs on a range. Live quarry shooting with a rifle should be a test of fieldcraft and the ability to stalk the quarry to a range where a lethal shot is (as near as possible) a certainty. wymberley
Help, please ,guys. We have a ballistic tip type bullet with a BC of 0.221 and an MV of 3010ft/sec, what, assuming an engine room shot, would be a realistic range for fox? Cheers Edit: Oops, sorry, perhaps should have added (although it may be irrelevant) that the bullet expansion performance is deemed satisfactory at 1600ft/sec. With Seeker at #3, njc at #6 my reply/thanks at #7(note remark about range requirement) and njc's welcome little humour at #8, this thread was complete at that point and the rest, as they say in Norfolk, is a load of old squit. One author would benefit from the old motto if he could re-arrange the following words into a well known phrase or saying; teach, granny, suck and eggs. Sprags
Sprags, Its quite simple why I didnt want to meet up with everyone on your forum, everytime I had any exchange with them they always wanted to come on one of my permissions and show me how to do things. I have been shooting for about 20 years, the last 6 months has been FAC. I am lucky enough to shoot over 1500+ acres of land local to me, in addition to this my family own a further 2500 acres in the Staffordshire. I will not take complete strangers onto any of my permissions or family land under any circumstances, particularly people who come across as some of the chavs do on your forum. As for "long range" shooting I will stick to the American forums for long range shooting advice as they appear to be a lot more knowledgeable. People on UKLR offered to help you Rob, after you asked for help! I would like you to explain the 'chav' statement! 6 months with a FAC, like I said from the start on UKLR, try to learn to walk before you try to run. You stick to the American sites, it appears that they have seen straight through already Anyway, laters Bro!
seeker
As Wymberley noted the original Q was answered . Coincidentally today I saw a back copy of G&A and an article by Craig Boddington: a writer who has walked in both hunter and military boots. The article - LR shooting: Fad or Fantasy? seems sensible. One commment seemed to fit this thread: 'LR shooting at targets is fun ... at Taliban is patriotic .. but there is a point at which shooting at game is irresponsible and unethical..' A reasonable read even for keyboard and internet warriors. http://www.gunsandammo.com/content/how-far-too-far?channel=rifles/how-to
