artschool
Personally I want my guns inside where its good and warm and easy to get at if your guns are cold and you bring them inside to the warmth isnt the cold metal going to allow all the moisture in the air to condense on the surface? i never quite understood why it wouldnt be better to leave them in a well ventilated place at a temperate to match outdoors? Batch
Have been reading this thread with quite a bit of interest as I too have my safe located in an integral garage and the FEO did not bat an eyelid, infact he was the one who suggested that out of all the locations within the house that I had picked out as possibles, that this was the most secure as it was totally out of sight from anyone visiting the house!! I guess the only diffference between mine and Dr W's would be that I have a stud wall 3/4 of the way between the inside and garage door, coupled with a ground anchored garage defender. But having had a flick through the guidance, you are doing no wrong Dr W, so I would be doing exactly the same and digging my heels in as a point of principle!! With you on that one, think its called 'temperature shock',and its not just on the surface its also inside the action etc :o
bongo321
I would understand if just up and over door but the door is also padlocked at the bottom on the outside and I was going to fit (as advised by FLO) further locks bolting the doors into the frame only accessible from the inside. Nevermind it's a pain to move but more of a pain to find somewhere my Mrs is happy for the safe to be inside. Put the Mrs in the garage if shes not happy , problem solved . hwr
Dr I'm with you a lot of the police think they write the law yet they only enforce it, I thank you that you choose to challenge what you see as an unfair opinion and wish you luck. For those that kowtow to an all knowing force , beware for you will be the first to moan on here when certain new conditions become the law because of precedent!!! opinions don't matter unless they are backed up by the relevant rules/laws etc. so if there are none don't quote them. Happy Shooting Hwr

Dr W
Well finally after a couple of months I now have this sorted and my safe where I want it. I uprated the security as the FEO had originally said so there was no reason for this to be dragged out so long. This is a reminder that the firearms departments can't make up their owns rules and have to follow the guidance just the same as we do. I've also learnt that firearms departments (well certainly down here) are full of non-shooting civilian managers who have no experience and do not know how to apply the guidance. Lesson for the day is if you don't like something you don't always have to accept it.

True, also if you can't have one in your garage, just put it in your "Workshop" "Laundry" "Storeroom" "Games room" etc a garage is where you park a car....... I wouldn't want to leave anything of value that can be carried behind an up and over door
