Hornet 6
Thermostat jammed, or heater matrix blocked would be my first guess. Neil.
webber
As above; also air locked, look for the bleeder screw. webber
fluke2
Try loosening a small hose then connect a hose pipe open the drain plug and totally flush the system out if its never been done youll be amazed at the crud in there, when you refill the system get the front end up as high as you can to help get any air out. hamster123
have not seen the screw for bleeding the system im not that familiar with it as ive only had it a few weeks
webber
The truck may not have a bleed screw; but if it has it will be located high up on the cooling system. Try looking around the expansion bottle; around the top of the radiator anf the top hose. If you can't bleed the system. or bleeding doesn't solve your problem; drain the system and backflush as has been mentioned by another member. Hoses can also collapse within, thus preventing flow. webber
remmy1100
Could be the thermostat has been removed alltogether to cure it overheating .if not by a coolant flush run it around a bit then get hose of bottom of raidiator and flush system with a hose
garyb
Agree with the above Or an early sign of HG failure, One of mine had little heat variation just before it failed.
al4x
Agree with the above Or an early sign of HG failure, One of mine had little heat variation just before it failed. its a fourtrak not a frontera, Hg very rarely go on these if the temp gauge never gets up to a decent temp except on a long run its a dodgy thermostat or a missing one

originalgeezer
Get the engine somewhere up to norm operating temp and then find whats hot and whats not...... is the rad hot at top and bottom, both sides of the thermostat hot, same for the matrix etc
hamster123
when i squashed one of the hoses to get any air locks out it felt like i crushed something inside it,is the hose collapsing in side it felt like it??the pipes are hot when engine is up to temp. Hornet 6
Sounds like scale build up on the inside of the hoses, which means everything in the cooling system needs a really good clean and fluch. Neil.
