foxnet22
after getting laid off due to weather we having i decided to take out my new cz 17hmr for the first time today.i attempted to zero it at 100yrds and was truley amazed how accurate this rifle is i eventually after zero, ing the gun decided to aim at a ten p bit and could,nt believe i hit it.lost it in snow so couldnt see what the round had done to it.anyhow tried it again and missed so cant wait to get back out with it and have decided to practise at 80 yrds till i get totaly used of the gun then increase my distance gradually.what magnification would you guys set on your scope at 100 yrds plus.also any one use lightforce 140 lamp on there 17hmr and how would you rate them. njc110381
The HMR is a cracking little round for a rimfire. When you get used to the gun you should be able to hit a 10p every time and when I had mine I could hit a 5p four times out of five! Scope wise I liked my 3-9x40. It was good at 9x most of the time but if shooting with the lamp I found that taking it down to 6x brightened the image quite a bit. I take it the lay off is just until the weather improves? If not you're taking it very well!
Dekers
Mine is zeroed at 100, some suggest 125, in simple terms whatever you and your land dictates. 10p shots at 100 yards should be expected, but whether it is you struggling to hold it still or simply the wind effect they can go way off with a strong crosswind. Accept them for what they are and you will be fine, a cracking, longer than .22lr, rabbit calibre! I have also made good use of mine in fox vermin control, relatively close, where they have been the tool of choice and a shot between the eyes has worked very well. This was in a rather pleasant hotel garden.... the owner was very happy with the result as the foxes had been eating all his ducks/geese/etc! 50-55 yard tops, but very effective! PS The two fox are a few days apart and one fell straight in the pond after the HMR did it's work! Edited December 1, 2010 by Dekers
bongo321
Hi in cheshire you cannot do that with a 17hmr , i asked for a variation and in passing just said add fox to it with vermin a TOTAL no no , a 22mag was one and sa 17rem that was allowed so opted for a 223 in the end , But thats just for fox and not for vermin , So there we go a typical difference in area to area . gerry
