SteveoM
Hi all, A quick question about how things work. Currently I’m about to have lessons at a local clay shooting ground, one of the members on here has offered to take me out and introduce me to the world of pigeon shooting and hopefully rabiting. My question is when should i start looking at guns and licenses or what sort of time scale should I be looking at. Cheers steve
shaun4860
Wait till you have had a go, just to see if you think you will take to it, When you get home from your first lesson , ring your local FEO and ask him to send you the relevant forms.... SteveoM
Ive fired a shotgun before and .22's but it was over 10 years ago I loved it but due to circumstances out of my control (living with parents)I moved back to the city and never got the chance again. Now ive got the money and time to do it properly. I cant wait for the snow to clear and get started.

SteveoM
I never thought it would be that easy . Anyways Ill apply on Monday . What sort of rough times does it take to process applications
BerettaSV10
It took about 12 weeks for my licence to arrive from me posting the application, some areas are even quicker. You should also be able get a application form from your local police station. as well as downloading one (although not all police stations appear to have them). Jega
Hi Steve ,the time for granting SGC's can vary enormously from police force to police force ,12 to 16 weeks seems to be average at the moment .I think its worth remembering that this year we have had 2 tragic incidents both invoving shot guns (Derek Bird and Raoul Moate) as such FEO's are now that extra bit more thorough and vigilant in there pre-granting checks ,just be patient mate its worth the wait. MAL S
if you like it apply as soon as poss, also try a few guns first
SteveoM
Right got the forms and on both it asks for what guns i will intend on adding to the licence. Ive found a CZ 22 rimfire I like the look and feel of but as for shot guns whats cheap and reasonable as a good started gun new or used. BerettaSV10
Are you applying for a SGC or FAC or both, as it might be easier to apply for a SGC then once settled down then apply for a FAC. To get a FAC I believe you also need permissions off the owners of the land you want to shoot on, and the land has to be FAC approved. SteveoM
Im applying for both because the other members on the shot dont do there share of vermin control so one of the critera for me getting membership is to contol the rabbits and pigeons which is the main reason I wanted this shot as theres loads of rabbits and pigeons and more land then i can shake a landy at.
