adam f
Ive got my FAC interview tomorrow. I've put in for both LR and HMR, currently I have a 3 gun cabinet with my O/U and S/A in it - so I have space for 1 more gun. Am I likey to be refused both calibres on the ground I dont have room or is that for me to manage? I put in for both to save a variation but only really intend to buy a HMR. If I ever wanted a LR as well I'd sell a gun and make space. Adam
gsm1968
It shouldn't be a problem if you can physicaly fit them in. My cabinet is officialy a 6 gun, but packed right it holds 10 and over 3000 shotgun rounds. FEO looked at it with out opening it and said that'll hold 20, and put it on his paperwork. It never will because half of it is shelves
Bleeh
I don't know (it varies from Firearms Dept to Firearms Dept) but It seems to be a new practice of FEO's taking notice of the gun cabinet size, and a record of the amount of guns you have. I remember having to argue the toss, having an extra deep 6 gun rifle cabinet, to the point it can safely hold more than 6 guns, as scoped rifles take up twice as much room. How right are you, my FEO said no more than 5 guns in my 6 gun cabinet, reckons its encourage me not to lock something away, but he did say it was only advice....so there are six guns, but its like playing tetris getting them in. yankeedoodlepigeon
Hi Is it a shotgun or rifle cabinet?
apache
At some point I had 10 guns in a 6 gun cabinet. I spoke to the police and they told me I can have as many as I can get in there, the responsibility was mine to make sure they were stored correctly. Colster
I had a 4/5 gun BSA safe which had a FAC Air, 22LR and a Shotgun in, when I put in for .243, .223 and HMR the FEO wasn't happy that they would all fit. I explained that the .223 was a bit of a pools win gun, in that I'd only buy it if I came into some cash and the HMR and .243 were the main ones. I said that if I'd come into that sort of money I'd just change the cabinet too but he wasn't initially happy about granting it. He did in the end but when I got the HMR I wasn't happy about squeezing them all in so sold the 4 gun and bought an 8. I don't think legally they can refuse you as the gun's security is your responsibility regardless of the cabinet's size or location but they know they can put their parts on and we'll generally do what we can to appease them. adam f
OK - thanks all, I'll see how it goes!
Dekers
Top and tail them, you can always get more in that way. He has no authority to tell you how many guns you are allowed in a Cabinet, but he must be satisfied you can store everything he grants you securely!
