Wood and field names

I grew up near Thieves' Wood, which anybody from the Mansfield area will know. Supposed to have a connection with Robin Hood.

At our Club Shoot yesterday we had drives at Three Lords Well, said to be a one time boundary between 3 estates where the owners had periodic meetings, of the well there is no sign. Also what we call Marnic but most likely Moornook, with the still deep snow we did not venture to Divot Hall, from where this came no one seems to know.

got one called the march field aptly named as theres always hare on it and one called the ash flats i have also got a wood called beacon wood thats on the top of a huge hill it was just one of the beacon lighting sites that provided signals to stafford castle back in the day.

We have a wood on our shoot. It's called "wood". We also have a lake called "lake" and a pond called "pond". The only strange name is a hole in the ground called "bomb hole".

my grandmother lived in ripley in surrey,when i went to stay with her during school holidays i used to play in a wood called 'the fuzzies'.i have no idea at all why it was called that.

although its not a wood or field, my mate lives in "SLUTS HOLE LANE" which is worth a mention as its not your run of the mill street name

There's a roa in to Reigate in Surrey called "Cockshot Hill."

Make me chuckle everyone I drive past.

We have got a Bomber Wood, so named because RAF aircraft were towed into the field during world war two to be repaired and they were put under the trees to hide them from German aircraft. Must have worked OK as none were attacked as far as we know.
