kent
wanting something a little easier Something that wont Rape my mates ESS might be nice! Seriously this is to be a Familly pet dog that will do more sedentry formal retrieving work not "Otto" my GWP he is not a familly dog he is a high octane hunting machine! who looks for a pheasant in every hedge and cannot understand why i continuinley ignoor the Mallard on the village green, want a dog that will cover the ground, face a Sika stag or send 1/2 mile for a clipped Goose he is without equal- But thats not what i am after with this one i want a traditional type lab the kids can play in the Garden with when it is not working. Besides i might be getting to old and weary to train another GWP
al4x
you wanted a bitch mines a poppet with children and a spot on house dog, though with some of the better traits you mention having had her beating all season she is a pheasant hoover I did think two days back to back would sort her out but no chance haven't had her without her training collar on as I'm too worried still she will put a muntjac in the bag Labs like that do come up regularly I'm guessing the smaller type is what you're looking for? I would preffer a traditional built lab with a proper head and a good double coat, strong enough to rerieve geese and powerfull enough to work in stronger tides but not as big as some that couldn't jump a fence etc. English lines in GWP are different to mine (Scandinavian and German Championship lines) and i am after a retriever not another GWP it just wouln't forfill what we want in this new dog and without seeming superiour i believe collars to be a usefull aid in training not a sticking plaster in everyday work
Alycidon
I had a little black bitch four years ago from Gameflight Gundogs out near Wisbeach, tiny little bitch but the dog of a lifetime. I use her as a peg dog but she is better picking up. Intelligent, excellent nose, good natured, soft mouth, brave as a Lion, she had a Canada take off with her attached to its back end a couple of years ago. I am intending to mate her providing she comes through her hips.eye.elbow tests this spring. Gameflight are a lovely family kennel and recommended. http://www.gameflightgundogs.co.uk/?p=p_14&sName=home A Edited December 29, 2010 by Alycidon

Ackley
She looks well formed, could i ask how old she is and i assume it is her first season of work on the commercial shoot and not her first season of work? she will be 3 this coming April, yes this has been her first full season working apart from a couple of days i took her on the back end of last season,I took things very slow and steady with her, shes wasnt allowed to run around with other dogs for the first 6 months and then limited exercise untill she was 1 year old so her joints were fully developed,as i know what its like to have a dog go down with bad hips aslo this kept her steady Iam actually working her tomorrow and will be taking my new camera santa got me for xmas to get some nice photos Edited January 4, 2011 by Ackley

kent
Not nessasarily, just depends on the sire and dam temprement, health checks and viewability / proveability. I am not looking for a heavily trial bred dog but parents must be both capable and calm. Looking for a bitch to work but also capable of switching off, my GWP just cant do this. not loking for something that is looking for a pheasant behind every hedge, coz every hedge here has presisely that and it gets to be a pain for the familly
