fluffsri
Firstly Happy New Year all! Secondly many thanks to all all offered advice on a new rifle for my Dad. He finally coughed for a HW90. He originally wanted a fixed barrel .177. He ended up with a break barrel .22. We havent tried it yet as I bought him a sight for Christmas but I forgot the mounts DOH, theyre on the way now so will zeroing next weekend hopefully. Cheers! bruno22rf
They?-have you bought a 2-piece mount for a HW90?-this gun (as most HW,s do in fact) has a "droop" barrel and would be best with a dedicated one piece designed for the gun-dont forget the arrestor pin as well-good luck-let us know how you both get on with it. I have known two people with these and both had to fit an arrestor block/pin. It does seem the HW's generally have a habit of shaking mounts lose. Good mounts essential I would say! Absolutely nothing wrong with 2 piece mounts on HW's in my experience - HW77, 95 and 97 all had cheap and cheerful 2 piece jobs and I never had a problem and never had to fit the available arresto rpin either, including for FT work. Never lost zero as I recall. Sound choice, spend time getting zero spot on (recommend 28-30 yards in .22) and you will not be disappointed with the rifle. Quality. bruno22rf
If you must use 2 piece mounts then you would be best to pop a couple of pieces of plastic padding under the scope at the rear mount-cut up 12g cartridge cases seem good. This should help compensate for the droop.Using the arrestor pin option is up to you-you may as well do it while you are putting the scope on cos you,ll end up doing it sooner or later. The 90 is a model that i,ve never tried and the gas-ram may be less harsh on firing-I,ve not seen many other HW,s in constant use that dont use a one piece mount and arrestor pins as well. I've trained plenty of doormen in my time - some of them can be a bit that way ! :yp:
