Bluebarrels
Only advice i can give you mate is the place is full of officers All you need to do is find yourself one sergeant, and listen to what he tells you and you wont go far wrong thats what most officers do BB
Wookie
A bit of a correction there... RMAS is full of potential officers. The platoon sargents though are picked for very specific reasons and qualities, and they are very good at their jobs. With regard to things to do if you have time, you could always head to the SAA Wing and try and get your WHTs done for the weapons you don't normally shoot or have access to, but they may be busy. What course are you going to be doing, and where are you staying?
Vipa
full of soldiers bye passing the correct way of becoming officers Strange?? I was under the impression all potential officers attended Sandhurst, even senior NCOs converting to a commission unless one receives a field promotion in war time?? rob4586
By-passing the real way. Hmmm.... I'm in the RAF as an officer cadet and 3 years of engineering at Uni followed by 64 weeks training and a year probation. Wouldn't class it as easy
Laird Lugton
a good officer is one that has gone from private and upwards they know wot makes a good soldier You reckon? I'm not saying they're not good but you'd think if they were that great they would make all Ruperts start as a private.....
BigMungo
there is a time and a place for officers...RMAS and RAFC are the best in my eyes, as i doubt i will get posted there Ive had a couple of bosses who are ex-rankers...one is spot on...the other not so...it all depends on what sort of SNCO they were. Blunderbust
I've got the opportunity to do a bit of training at Sandhurst over the next few days which I'm really looking forward to - I've never been there so it will be great to experience a place with such a deep history - has anyone got any Sandhurst stories they want to share - I might be able to pass them off as my own in the bar 2moro night. I was a C/Sgt instructor at Sandhurst in the early 90s. The officer cadets who are successful and are offered a commission in their chosen regiment/corps work very hard to complete their common commission course which when I was there took them a year training at Sandhurst. Other ranks can apply for commission and if successful will do there stunt at Sandhurst, however certain other ranks, normally Warrant Officers and above can receive what is known as a late entry commission and don’t need to attend Sandhurst. These types of late entry commissions normally mean continuing their careers along the MT, QMs or other specialised jobs. If you do go to Sandhurst on your trip and like fishing they have a very nice trout lake and the wish stream which runs down the side of where the Old Victory College used to be and just further along the road there is a very nice course fishing pond. I remember they used to get a special ticket to cull the Canada Geese at that time as they were causing havoc with their shi**ing over the grass in front of Old College. Here is a pic of me with my best known Student, Tim Rodber who was the England number 8 at the time. This was a press set up pic as England and Scotland were due to play the following Saturday. I being a Jock and his C/Sgt instructor was all the hype at the time. Have a good visit and enjoy a very nice location.
