I've got the opportunity to do a bit of training at Sandhurst over the next few days which I'm really looking forward to - I've never been there so it will be great to experience a place with such a deep history - has anyone got any Sandhurst stories they want to share - I might be able to pass them off as my own in the bar 2moro night.

A bit of a correction there... RMAS is full of potential officers. The platoon sargents though are picked for very specific reasons and qualities, and they are very good at their jobs.

With regard to things to do if you have time, you could always head to the SAA Wing and try and get your WHTs done for the weapons you don't normally shoot or have access to, but they may be busy.

What course are you going to be doing, and where are you staying?

Strange?? I was under the impression all potential officers attended Sandhurst, even senior NCOs converting to a commission unless one receives a field promotion in war time??

I was a C/Sgt instructor at Sandhurst in the early 90s. The officer cadets who are successful and are offered a commission in their chosen regiment/corps work very hard to complete their common commission course which when I was there took them a year training at Sandhurst.

Other ranks can apply for commission and if successful will do there stunt at Sandhurst, however certain other ranks, normally Warrant Officers and above can receive what is known as a late entry commission and don’t need to attend Sandhurst. These types of late entry commissions normally mean continuing their careers along the MT, QMs or other specialised jobs.

If you do go to Sandhurst on your trip and like fishing they have a very nice trout lake and the wish stream which runs down the side of where the Old Victory College used to be and just further along the road there is a very nice course fishing pond.

I remember they used to get a special ticket to cull the Canada Geese at that time as they were causing havoc with their shi**ing over the grass in front of Old College.

Here is a pic of me with my best known Student, Tim Rodber who was the England number 8 at the time. This was a press set up pic as England and Scotland were due to play the following Saturday. I being a Jock and his C/Sgt instructor was all the hype at the time.

Have a good visit and enjoy a very nice location.
