The Duncan
Hi Folks, has anyone had experience of Verney Carron shotguns. They look and seem well made and I know they are french. How do they do for reliability etc? The one I tried felt good in the shoulder Any opinions appreciated, Duncan
Colster
It's the old truism, if it fits you'll shoot well with it. I have one and love it to pieces, nice low comb which I prefer and surprisingly light. About the same as OH's 20b. sitsinhedges
Why buy one when you can get one of the more popular brands for the same money
wymberley
Why buy one when you can get one of the more popular brands for the same money Hi, My dear old granny used to tell me that fashion had nothing to do with style. Just because something is currently more popular doesn't make it any better. They are a good honest make. Cheers

They wont be going out of style anytime soon either

Difference being he'll have spent less on the VC. Mine cost me £

Mine cost me £195 Maybe a second hand value of £195 proves my point Really it's up to the potential owner to decide if something is worth investing in, but my point was that if two guns are in a relatively similar price bracket it makes sense to get the one with the great reputation and back up rather than some vague brand that could disappear without trace. http://www.gunmart.net/gun_review/verney_caron_v12n/ Edited January 12, 2011 by sitsinhedges
wymberley
Flippin' heck! The OP is asking about buying a gun and we're talking him into selling it before the print is dry on his SGC. Duncan give his reasons for buying this particular gun and SiHs tells us to buy only if it has "Beretta" (or Browning, etc, etc) engraved on it (probably by machine). I know which reason which makes more sense to me. Cheers
Colster
Maybe a second hand value of £195 proves my point ..or it proves mine. I made an assumption the OP was talking about a second hand gun, you're assuming new. I've no idea which of us is correct but for what it's worth if he's buying new I'd probably agree with you but for second hand, it's a sound buy. http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/101210093917000 - that's basically the same as mine and look... I'm a hundred quid up if I wanted to sell it, which I don't
The Duncan
You are right Colster - I'm starting out in shotgunning and looking to keep outlay sensible, so second hand is favoured, hence the question about reliability. Why a VC? I love the look and feel of them. ATB Duncan Edited January 15, 2011 by The Duncan
