HDAV
I'm no expert particularly with Semi's but longer barrels will swing smoother for some and shift balance forward slighty compared to shorter barrels. Longer may be an issue in a hide but its only 2" go for the one that feels better for you. Might be better posting this in Guns and Equipment have a read here: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/151121-thinking-of-treating-myself-to-a-maxus/page__view__getnewpost__fromsearch__1 Edited January 15, 2011 by HDAV
rangey
can some body please help buy semi auto browning maxus. is 30 inch barrels better than 28inch gun used for crow pigeon and wild fowl best choice thanks. i use a 30"maxus myself and always prefer my autos with 30" barrels.but remember a 30"semi is probably at least 3" longer than a 30"o/u because of the receiver.the length of the maxus makes no difference in a pigeon hide as you never need to move it from the upright position to load it.if you have not been shooting long a 30" semi may feel a little long but gives good smooth swing through

My 686 is also 28" but my lads Silver Pigeon is 30 and I do get on ok with that! You takes your choice, and certainly if you are a little taller or bigger than maybe a 30 will suit you, try to handle a few!
mickmep
as has ben said try a few, but i find it different using one 'in anger' rather than swinging around in a gunshop. personally like a 28" on a semi, comes up around the same length as a 30" o/u. but i shoot 95% clays. and 100% of that with a semi auto. my first semi was a 30" plus chokes and i found that a bit long. sight picture mainly for me, the end of the barrel seemed much further away, and i found it a bit unwieldy for rough shooting. surprisingly my supernova is 26" barrelled and that comes up similar length to a 28" semi auto, definately not 2" shorter anyway. Greenhunter
I have a 30" maxus and, although I'm still getting used to it, it is the smoothest gun I've ever shot! As has been said, its not a problem in a hide as the loading is so easy. Swings through well and with ease! Simple to alter to fit too!
