Well the obvious is get out and ask, do you live in rural area? go to school in one? You may need to check the laws as they have changed recently as to exactly what under 18's can and can't do on their own see BASC website for more info on that.

Things r=to consider, go to some Young farmers meets ask friends or people you know in the farming community and at your club, unless you have money to spend it could be difficult but work on your strengths, perhaps offer to help out on a farm etc offer your services to assist farmers with their computers etc.

You will have to be known and trusted to get permission especially at your youthful age and i guess transport could be an issue, if you have and friends relatives in the agricultural industry ask them to introduce you to some land owners who have pest issues Pigeon/rabbit etc

your best bet would be to ask at your wildfowl club if you could join some of the older guys out of season on the pigeons etc

hi there, my feo has told me i can shoot unsupervised at 16, although supervision is recommended. my uncle is a farmer but i think he is a little unsure about issues with my age etc.

i just want some where were i can get some experience etc. i live about 2 1/2 miles away from the countryside so its not far.

Well i would say your uncle is the best route to go make life easy for him get all legal stuff sorted (quick email to BASC then print out their reply for him etc) get on his case politely or ask your parents to and perhaps just keep truning up and going for a walk, without your gun, perhaps a camera and take photos of the birds, rabbits on his land eating his profits etc also try and get to go with him when he does farmer stuff, goes to the agri merchants, market etc (if they sell carts and he has an SGC ask him to buy you some carts) and get to his contacts.

hi

try to find someone a bit older to take them with you or like other people have said ask someone at your club it will be quite hard for you to get permission on your own because of your age,if you do go down the road of going to farms and asking for permission dress smartly, bring proof of your Shotgun license, BASC membership and insurance,be polite and above all shoot safe and responsibly and have fun!

good luck

Tom

How about you take him clay shooting one morning he has a couple of hours (a rare occurrence i know) where you can show him your safe gun handling and ability. HE might enjoy it and be happier, at 16 I would have wanted to do the same but not 100% I would have been able to

  • 2 weeks later...

Always leave people your contact details too, if you change you rmind, or if any of your other shooters leaves/lets you down. or if they know someone else who does, the next farmer, or their daughter may have horses and want rabbits gone etc etc. tell everyone you see your after permission, someone will end up saying my mates brothers uncles dogs friends need rid of some pigeons, and then away you go.
