rapid rich
Lads, what would be a reasonably priced/suitable scope for an 17hmr? Shooting vermin out to 150 yds. Can't afford the high priced end of the market, but still looking something up to the job. Also make/height of mounts to suit suggested scopes on a cz 452?? Many thanks Rich
12borejimbo
I used to have 2 scopes on my HMR, first I had a Hawke Nite Eye 6.5-20x50, nice scope, but just didnt feel right, then I changed it for a Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater 6-24x56, that was nice, but the size (length and end of the scope) made it look a bit silly, plus it had loads of zoom too, so alot of messing about, and it was quite heavy. I went into my local gunshop and picked up an MTC Viper 4-16x50, what a scope for the money. Full mounts, sunshade, sidewheel (if wanted) and flip up scope covers, all for £229. Really good optics, and illuminated ret and a really nice thin Multi aim point small calibre ballistics reticile. Proper sniper turrets and it is not too much faffing about, just point and shoot, great under the lamp aswell. Id get another one, might stick one on my .22! By the way im not a sales rep for MTC, (optisan) lol. Get one, im sure you will love it. It was either this or a Bushnell Trophy.
NorfolkPoacher
Tbh mate hawke do a good range I have one on mine, I find a 6-24x50 gives me a good field of view and assists the 200 yard potential. Warn mounts are really good but at 70 quid you may disagree!! the scope is 150.hope that helps atb Dave
Luckyshot
I have the Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater 6-24x56 on both my 22rf and 17hmr and find them perfect for the job. They are nice and clear to rimfire ranges and above and suit my nv add on perfectly. Once zeroed I have never needed to touch my hmr last year and thats shooting over 2000 rabbits and for £75 second hand you can't go wrong. Shropshire_Lad
The MTC Viper 4-16x50 that 12borejimbo talks of; I have no complaints with mine other than it adds a bit of weight to the rifle being quite a heavy scope. Under the lamp its fine though at times I think a simpler ret would be better for lamping. For daytime use out to the ranges you talk of its fine though. atvb Paul.
