colin lad
been told by feo today my variation is on its way so first port of call will be a new hmr was thinking of cz 452 with a heavy barrel? as they are more accurate what barrel length would you reccomend? it will be for stalking and not from vehicle, any help would be appreciated colin
apache
I have the CZ 452 and it's more accurate than me. I got the short barrel. You can shoot a short barrel from the car or on foot, but my long .22 is a pain in the bottom in the car! Cost a few quid extra, but less than the cost to chorten and rethread it! The heavy 'American' barrel suits me. A SAK mod quietens it a bit, but there's still a sonic crack. Just need some 10 round mags now - please! Anyone? As for not using it out of a vehicle any length barrel will do but personally I would and did go for the 16" version standard barrel. The varmit barreled version would be far too heavy to be carrying around all day but each to there own I suppose.

Colster
I have a CZ453 Silhouette in HMR but... if I was buying now I'd have a long hard look at the Browning T-Bolt. As far as barrels go, I don't think there is any benefit to a heavy (varmint) barrel in a rimfire, some people prefer the look of them and they might have been offered a deal on one but they don't give any benefit. As far as barrel length, just a word of caution. I have a 16" CZ452 .22LR which is what I mostly use for lamping so I went for the shorter barrel and it is better for getting in and out of the window but my HMR is 20" as they cost less and I use it more for laying up (although I used it tonight lamping without any problem). When I put the HMR away, I always take the SAK off but I don't on the LR. As the LR is only a 16" barrel it wouldn't stand up properly in the cabinet without the mod on. Not a problem for me as I leave it on the LR but if you're inclined to take the mod off your HMR after use then you might find the rifle slides about a bit in the cabinet. All things considered if you're not using it for lamping out of a vehicle, get the 20" and save yourself a few quid. LR is the one at the back, with the HMR in front. Middle of last week was in the shop which has these on offer with another member known to have a quaint turn of phrase when required. Pointing it out to him, all I got was something Anglo Saxon followed by "fashion accessory". You can see his point, though. Cheers
