Lamping with the HMR.

Had a look out last night with the HMR. It’s the first time on this particular farm this year so a good night was on the cards. I was driving and shooting whilst my mate was working the lamp. As soon as we entered the first field we knew we were in for some action as there were quite a few rabbits about and they didn’t seem to bothered with the lamp.

Most of the shots taken were under 100yds averaging 80-85yds. The night was going very good 100% successive headshots until I missed an easy rabbit and when I went for the second shot I slipped on the wing mirror with the gun and ended out shooting the rabbit heart and lung.

The fields were pretty frozen still so made some of the fields a no go area as the Landy would do too much damage to the grass. We had to leave my favourite field because of this and that is where the majority of rabbits are. So after 5 hours of driving shooting gutting we were ready for a cuppa and to sort the rabbits for a photo. After finishing our cuppa we placed all the rabbits out with each of us guessing how many had been shot. My guess 60ish my mates guess 65ish. Once all laid out we found the total bag was indeed 72 with only 1 that wasn’t ahead shot.

Although the distances were not that great I would class that as pretty good going considering the rifle was only being rested on the mirror. An enjoyable night had by the both of us and it will also keep the farmer smiling for a week or so.:lol::lol:

Alot of these rabbits were shot in groups of 3-4 and none of them even battered an eyelid, my opinion is when lamping a group of rabbits wether it be using an HMR or 22rf if you can keep the rabbits on the edge of the lamp they tend to just sit there. Im off out tonight on the farm next door so hopefully will be bagging a few more with a bit of luck. Ile post the results when I get back in.
