wood clearance

I have just got a nice wood to ferret however most of the rabbits are out and about in the wood instead of underground ,

I have tried making lots of noise to get them to ground but they just move to another part of the woods.

The lady who ownws the woods has said i can shoot in there if i want . What is the chance of getting these woods cleard for a .22 rifle ? The size of the woods is 2 acres with a main road running across the front her house at one side and a church on the other side so i could only shoot from the front to the rear then i would also have to make a perminant high seat to make a safe backstop.

I think i might be better of using an air rifle but dont really want to buy another gun.

I'd go with an air rifle to be honest for when overhead quarry becomes available - with a lot more stealth and dicretion than your shottie. FAC air is more usefull than many appreciate in close quarter locations.

I don't think you had a go with my BTAS FAC Cyclone - which could be arranged to see if you like the potential.

Longnets and good dogs with a beating line is the way forward ask the owner if you can clear a some rides for the nets.

Cheers OTH

Long netting will work but it depends on how the wood is made up, and if you are not set up with nets, it is a bit of an investment and also something, that is not learnt over night, let alone working out the best way to cut a path through and getting in a right pickle.

It is warming up and the rabbits will be on the “top” so why not try to find somebody local to you on PW who has long nets etc. What we do is cut and clean the paths before hand, so when we go back, we can set out the nets with the minimum of noise and disturbance.

Then run around like mad men :lol: You will be surprised what comes out of a wood!
