Beardo
i've got scopes made by both (and also Swaro) - personally i'd got down the Swaro route if you could. I take it this is for range shooting - cos they'll be monsters for carrying around in the field.
garyb
If it's the new Zeiss with the FL coating... that would be my choice. Although that objective is crazy!

Beardo
eek - are you really sure you want to be carrying a scope around that weighs as much (and is almost as big) as the rifle?

Luckyshot
im taking foxes up to 500yards out the 8x56 just aint doing it against dark back ground ? You must have better eyes than me then at that distance through that scope ide be happy to be able to see the fox let alone shoot it. Vipa
Your FOV at 50x mag would be tiny... you'd never find your target let alone shoot it... The glass in either of those scopes is good enough that your eyes won't be able to see any difference. The PMII 10-50 was produced purely for the benchrest target market, no tactical shooter would ever use that kind of magnification... it creates far more problems than (you think) it solves. Also, it will come with a tactical ret. Great if you are a police marksman, marine sniper or even target shooter but as a purely hunting scope..... almost useless. Then you have the issue that 10x is too much for a lot of field applications!!! I am putting a PMII 5-25x56 on my Sako TRG but that is a target rifle that could (if I need it to) work in the field for me... The 5-25 is ample out to 1200m if needed. On my hunting rifle I put the best hunting scope available (imho) A Swaro Z6i... Why have you chosen 2 tactical scopes? bloody heavy and as the name would imply, not designed for hunting! Correct tool for correct job!!! A PMII has no place (other than as a back up) foxing or stalking

jamie g
you dont need a 72 front lens for field use to be fair. the s&b with that mag would be better suited to long range target work. the 56 front lens ziess imo is the better bet. there superb and under the lamp unreal
jock16f
thanks vipa and jamie g food for thought ?
Vipa
Also, with the Swaro Z6/Z6i, if you get the Ballistic turret, you have the simplicity of a crosshair with the flexibility to dial in 3 additional ranges visually and anything else by click... plus it's half the weight of a tactical scope

al4x
a friend has the 72 on a rifle for shooting foxes at last light from high seats, as of last time I'd seen him he hadn't managed to find high enough mounts to make it fit. You're not a mate of Jack Ready are you by chance? because you were doing well till the 500 yard shots with an 8x56
SilentKill
You're not a mate of Jack Ready are you by chance? because you were doing well till the 500 yard shots with an 8x56 Lol Rabbits look small at 150 yards with my 8x56 let alone a fox at 500! Dunkield
I like and I own Swarovski's, but I have always been very impressed by top end Zeiss scopes We need a mathematician to work out how much of a target an S&B crosshair would obscure at 500 yards It's been a while since I owned one but I bet it is about 8-10inches, or maybe even more?
