dcradds
Hello All, Just joined the forum and recently new into the world of shooting, got myself a Browning 325 over under and being doing lots of clays. I now want to move into some Pigeon shooting. Is there anyone local to the Harpenden Herts area that might be able to share some knowledge. I have a set of eight decoys and am making a spinner. Hope to hear from someone soon... Many thanks
Catamong
Hi dcradds, Welcome to the forum. Shooting woodies is a bit different to clays at Broomhills..!! There are a number of shooters in the area that regularly post on this forum, my advice on getting shooting would be to read how others have done it, then try it for yourself. There's plenty of shooting available in your area, the trick is to get a good relationship with one farmer, then start working on his neighbours. Let us know how you get on. Cat. dcradds
Blimey! Quick couple of replies already, my first ever forum and am very impressed. Yes Clays at Broomhills is my only experience as yet. Which farmer would be the best to speak to first in the area then Cat? If you know any that is.... Cheers. charlie
Hi matey and welcome. Your best bet is to drive around local area take a good pair of binos and look for pigeons feeding, usually on rape now but spring drilling is coming up anytime now. Once located look for nearest farm then go and ask nicely for permission go alone as most farmers seem to prefer this explain to him that you just want to set up and shoot pigeons from your hide and you wont be wandering all over the place shooting at all you see.But as someone said ealier gain knowledge on what to do first . OR youmight look a fool if he asks questions about something you dont know about good luck. :o

Catamong
dcradds, Charlie has hit the proverbial nail on the head, get out and about, I managed to get land all the way from Luton Hoo to Watford purely by door knocking, but only when the woodies are hitting the fields hard, otherwise you'll get a polite refusal. A friend of mine may have a vacancy in a rough shooting syndicate near St Albans later in the year, send me a PM if you're interested. Cat. dcradds
Thanks all for your help so far! Is there anyone that would mind letting a novice ghost them for a shoot? Or am I crossing a code by asking?? I would happily just come and watch un armed if it made people more comfortable? Many thanks dcradds
