dougall
I was with a Metal trader last week,he told me lead has risen over £200/ton in the previous week, when combined with the £ falling versus the Euro you have a bad recipe for Cartridge prices. As I am sure you know components for cartridges are in the main imported from Europe, combine this with Lead trading so much higher and it will filter through shortly. I have just taken the plunge and bought in bulk.
CZ550Kevlar
Hopefully the peasants will be priced out of the market soon.

dougall
Lead price is up @ 40% since last June. If you dont think this will impact on cartridge prices then thats just fine with me too. As a benchmark Just cartridges clay shells are @ £160 per '000 and their 32g Fibre Game shells are @ £200 per '000. Lets see what they are in July 2011 and December 2011. HDAV
Still below 2007/08 highs... I dont doubt cart prices will go up! But i have been offered Eley 28g clay shells in fibre and plas under £140 per thousand. JC arent that cheap!
Vince Green
No doubt at all that it will result in a price increase but by how much? If you double the price of lead it should only result in a very small increase in the price of a cartridge. Lead shot per kilo is many times higher than lead per kilo anyway. Presumably the costs are in the manufacturing and shipping rather than the lead. And it should take many months to filter through. What you will find is that the price will go up straight away in some shops with all the old excuses. A bit like getting told that rifle ammo has gone up because of the war in Afganistan. Flim flam

Flim flam Oil price rise: Price for plastic for cartridge tubes and wads will go up, so will transport costs. Energy price rise? Metal prices, wages, profit, 20% VAT; all factors. HOWEVER! CARTRIDGES ARE STILL CHEAPER THAN IN THE PAST! (In 1962 I was paying approx 75p for a box of Grand Prix ; my weekly wage was £3.50!)

(In 1962 I was paying approx 75p for a box of Grand Prix ; my weekly wage was £3.50!) You are so right and thats the point I have made many times to people. I didn't start buying cartridges until 1970 or thereabouts but in those days my Saturday job which was work two hours Thursday evening and all day Saturday in a supermarket bought four boxes (40) Baikals or S&B. Couldnt afford Grand Prix or three crowns. You must have been rich. But the Baikals and S&B were pure joy. Wonderful cartridges. Real cartridges. Not like this discount rubbish we get today.
