pavman
I went out againg this morning looking for a Chicken killer on one of my permissions as he has been seen by farmers wife from the kitchen window around 7am heading out over a marsh. Arrived 6:15 and got set up and as about right at end of Fowling season about 30 Canada Geese dropped into to join 50 ducks on a splash not 150 yards from my spot around 6:45 Had a cup of tea and started looking round with binos as day light came on and sure enough at 7am there is Charlie in the middle of next marsh over (not mine) walking round and enjoying his morning round his manner, did a quick range find 350 yards, tried calling to get him over to my bit but no luck will go out again tonight but i have to say early mornings suit me and seeing how Charlie wonders about is interesting even if I dont get a shot. I have already had three this year in the early hours before work and am staring to think its more productive than blundering around in the dark :yp: Edited February 1, 2011 by pavman
WGD
I don't go out early morning specifically for fox, but I have shot a fair few on early morning deer stalking trips.
Evil Elvis
If you know thier patrol route, first light can be a cracking time to catch them off thier guard!!! They have been hunting/scavenging all night and are on the way home to bed....they seem to abandon a lot of thier night time caution. rioulike
i prefer getting an early morning fox or one at dusk over lamping any time
rimfire4969
We have been having a problem with a fox on our shoot that we can't get near when lamping. So i think i will take a leaf from your book and have a few early mornings, to me it is the best time of the day before anyone else is around. the enigma
In the summer,I usually go out for a mooch about with the shottie before I start work. One morning,I was walking down a farm track and turn a corner and here was charlie, about 20yds away.Well I looked at him,and he looked at me..... I only had 6s in the gun,and wasn't sure if they were heavy enough to take him cleanly,so I didn't take the shot.He didn't bolt, just turned and dandered into the hedge.Really must get a box of something heavier, just incase our paths ever cross again. Evil Elvis
Shame, 6's at that range would have been more than adequate, both barrels to make sure or three if you have a semi lol!!!

No problem at that range, i had one on a shoot day at about 30 yards with 6's, one shot dropped him dead.
