The mrs want to save a copy of a series for school, it is currently available on BBC iplayer and we have it recorded on our Sky + HD.

Is there software to allow it to be copied to a portable HDD or copied onto DVD or a physical way it can be done?

Or

We also have it recorded on sky, can this be copied onto DVD or HDD (if so does the recorder need to be HD and only played on a HD player as the output from sky is HD? If that makes sense).

If its on iPlayer, you can use a program called "iPlayer Downloader" - the only problem is, iPlayer isn't good quality if its for TV.

From Sky+ - use a DVD recorder, use an HDMI cable if you can (Sky+ HD?) otherwise its a scart cable.

You can't copy saved videos which are on a Sky box. They're encrypted and if you did take the files off, they'd be completely scrambled.

You can record onto a DVD though, but it will take ages. (you'll have to live record it. )

you are right about the live record thing but setting it up to record overnight is easily done there is/was a feature that allows you to set several episodes up to play sequentially for downloading to a DVDR, problem is its one continuous recording if you do that which isn't so useful if you want play episodes from the middle of the recording
