tom_0787
Im in the process of buying a remington 700 in 22-250 flavour and need to start thinking about a scope. Its going to be used mainly for fox under the lamp and occasional muntjac. I have a MTC viper 6-12x56 on my HMR but I want something less fussy for the CF. Would I end up feeling restricted by a fixed mag scope? Im looking to spend under £
Billy.
Save up an extra £100-150 and stick a S&B on top of it. No point having a nice rifle with cheap optics. I've made the mistake too many times and realised my errors after about six years It's like owning a camera. You can spend ten grand on the camera, but if you've got a cheap lens on it, it's never going to take good photos. I've gone fixed mag. I bought all these fancy 6-24x scopes and they all sit on 8x and never move. You'll be fine with fixed mag Edited February 17, 2011 by Billy. Billy.
Can i get a schmidt and bender for £350? If you shop around and be patient enough for the right one to come along. eBay is a good place to watch. You can set up saved seaches which alert you whenever a specific keyword is triggered. I got a great deal on a car part earlier, saved me about £60 as it was a person offering it on a 'buy it now' auction. I was going for an S&B, but ended up buying a Swaro. Don't expect a new one at that price though
Colster
Can i get a schmidt and bender for £350? If you're speedy, I've seen 8x56's go for that occasionally and 6x42's for around £250 but they don't hang around. Don't dismiss stuff like Lisenfeld though, a 6x42 Spezial would probably cost you about £120 - I might even sell you mine

Same materials, assembled in different factories. afaik no difference in quality.
pat g
Hi Tom. I have a 4-16x50 MTC Taipan that sits on my Hmr. Have you considered one of them?. Upgraded finish from the Vipers and Mamba's with a very clever integral sunshade that simply extends out fom the front objective lense. If you hav'nt had a look at one of these scopes i would urge you to check them out before making any purchase. They come in various magnifications and up to 56mm front lens. A bit more than £200 but shop about. I was very impressed with the quality. Don't dissmiss them as "another airgun scope" I think they were tested in last months Gunmart Magazine and were said to be perfect for any centre fire rifle. If you find the SCB reticle a little "fussy" then there is an AMD reticle which is less cluttered. Nowt wrong with a fixed power scope either. I had a s&b 8x56mm on my 308 for the 3years that i owned the rifle although i only ever used it on range days. IMO a variable power scope is more useful in a hunting situation. Good luck with your choice though ATB Pat
Paddy Galore!
also leupold, weaver, nikon, and don't dismiss edgar bros, i have a couple, one of them is on my 22/250 and it still works
tom_0787
Think Im going to have a session with my HMR but leave it on 8x mag and see how i get on with it before commiting to anything. My eyes are not the best and I wear contact lenses all the time. I dont think i could zero at 100 yards on 8x mag!
