Houseplant
size 5/6 gear should do it. floating line is a good start. rod and reel obviously. net. priest. marrow spoon. leaders - i use plain mono or fluorocarbon on 100m spools. never seen the need for expensive tapered leaders. don't go too mad on flies. couple of dozen will do it to begin with, mainly nymphs and dry flies. a few lures too if you/your fishery aren't adverse to them. have fun! Acid House
Some sun glasses and a hat. Those barbed flies are a sod to pick out of your eye. Don't spend a fortune. If you don't take to it even £50 worth of gear is a waste when it's sat under the stairs for the next twenty years. If you do take to it then you will end up changing rods and stuff anyway within a few months when you develope your own style. Enjoy it and remember it's called fishing not catching. Acid House
Oh and don't snaffle your diddler when squaffing for muntings. Your tipper will only snit. Your better upping a dong warbler when starting up. God elp ya
vole
I find a double taper line best for river work .Gives more delicate presentation and you can reverse it when it wears out . Best to tag along with someone experienced and casting lessons if you can afford them . Otherwise you can practise on the lawn.
billytheghillie
dont practice on lawn, its easy on grass and when you are on the water it is a different ball game.
