Beretta28g
Hi all, after feeding/food advice for my spaniel. I started feeding James WellBeloved (£45/15KG) when he was small; then when he was fully grown I at the advice of a local gamekeeper, shifted him to a lower protien food, called Country Value which ia available from Pets At Homeat aroung £12/25KG. I am begining to worry that he is not getting as good a diet as he should, so I was wondering whether some people could offer advice as to whether i am feeding him a good food and if not offer some alernitaves that dont break the bank(i dont mind paying for quality but dont wanna be ripped off) Thanks Beretta
steve0146
Honestly mate, I have tried nearly every dry food and raw. The dogs love raw ( meat, bones and veg )but I dont have the time to make it every night. All dogs still get bones every week from butcher or our supermarket. I have gone cheap from basic brands to james wellbeloved and science plan etc and the only one they eat now is Purina Beta. I have a mix of dogs, Lab, deerhound lurcher and parson terrier. All for different purposes and its the only brand they all will eat. Not cheap at full price but our local shop has it half price at the moment and we stocked up on it! fortune82
My Cocker is on Royal Canine with a meal of raw meat and bones every couple of days. I tried him on Pedigree dry food simply because I ran out of Royal Canine and popped into Tesco's. It was like he was on speed!!! Went straight in the bin after 2 days. Beretta28g
Thanks, there ae mnany good suggestions here. Ive been having a look at Chudleys, and tha may be the way to go. I generally feed less than 20% protien or the dog goes hyper.
Dirksdonuts
Thanks, there ae mnany good suggestions here. Ive been having a look at Chudleys, and tha may be the way to go. I generally feed less than 20% protien or the dog goes hyper. I had that same problem with my 2 labs so I now use the Chudleys Classic instead of the working crunch. Their coats have never looked better.
figgy
Had my dog on beta to start off with but it sent him hyper but my wifes pet terriers love it, tried chudleys working crunch after some experienced advice, what a difference he was a calmer more switched on to commands dog altogether with a nice coat, but he got bored of it. Also tried dr Johns gold medal didnt think much of it nor did the dog. Trying him on skinners ruff and ready, not to high on protein, doing well on it for the moment, but i also feed him bones and raw meat regularly and bits of leftover veg off the dinners, and the odd tin of sardines,i try to balance his diet as much as i can. Think ill be sticking to chudleys and skinners, plenty in the ranges hopefully to stop him getting bored of it,and it suits him. Not to pricey either
paul041075
Been on Skinners Field and Trial with my two labs and typical labs they will eat anything. Swapped to Dr Johns Gold and there coats are improving becoming alot more shinier. Know a fair few people with black labs who use the same both as working and as pets and thet are in fantastic condition. Plus its only about 9 to 10 quid a bag.
