hi.

a question for any currrent or ex spas owners.

have read on the spas12 site about the receiver buffer breaking and the bolt breaking the receiver in semi auto mode.

do you owners use the semi auto mode ?

have you replaced the buffer ?

do you think i should replace the buffer before using in semi auto ?

or is this another scare story like the old style safety switch ?

has anyone actually heard of one breaking a receeiver ?

has a buffer in place at the moment but i dont know if its the original one or a replacement.

thanks.

  • 3 weeks later...

do you use your in semi auto ?

mines got a buffer in place, but i'm reluctant to use it semi auto.

did give it a try to see if it worked, but only been using pump mode to be safe.

mines got the old safety, which works like it should.

a bit of a hold your breath moment trying the safety to see if it worked

dont use the safety switch on any of my guns anyway, safe handling is king, dont believe in relying on the safety switch.

they're either unloaded or dangerous.

cheers. :good:

do you think its a bit scaremongering about the broken receiver ?

wondered if anyone actually knows anyone whos had one break ?

actually quite like the gun, and seem to shoot ok with it.

used it as pump pretty much exclusively, and seems strange if you dont have to pump it now.

gave it a proper strip down and clean out when i got it and not had any issues with it cycling in semi auto mode, using 28g loads.

I had a Spas, it was a ***. Heavy and needed heavy loads to cycle reliably, if you didn't have it firmly in your shoulder it jammed. The pump action was a joke, the plastic fore-end slid against the parkerised barrel guard and eventualy wore the parkerization off. This was years ago, and the Rem 1100 was a much better gun for practical shotgun.

On the plus side, it was very good with slug.

Overall, a triumph of form over function. I wouldn't have another.

And Gram that SPAS is still going strong how ever it ain't that heavy for me anyway.

Think the biggest problem is the bolt release button that you have to use to load the shells in other than that I get on with it quite well.

Good to hear, It's not that heavy in the grand scheme of things, but fully loaded it's a bit of a sow compared to an o/u.

A little trick i learnt when reloading cos all those buttons are a pain, don't push the shell all the way in, leave 1/2 inch or so and push that in with the next shell, that way you don't need to keep the button depressed.
