deako01
Got a 54 plate Navara which has just had the short block replaced due to the conrod going. Got a new clutch fitted when they were at it so it was an expensive January for me. Ive run it for about 1k miles but not sure if I can just run it until its next 6k service or do I need to get it back in before then to make sure nothing has worked loose (you can tell I know nothing about engines). When I collected it they didnt give me any advice at all. Cheers,
J@mes
Personally I would take it back and ask them to check it over for your piece of mind - if they are any kind of reasonable garage, they should do. Also make sure the oil is kept topped up, as the engine beds in it may well use some. Our new A3 TDi used 1 litre of oil in the first 1000 miles. al4x
if they wanted it back they should have told you at the time, however calling to check is a good idea.

No one said at the time so called and its going back in, so ta for that. At least if it went this time I would be covered by warranty. I got my parts covered under goodwill but the labour I had to pay for £1.5k In the end if I had to pay for the parts and labour it would have cost more the the truck. Got quotes of £1.5k to £2k for a recon engine (that didnt include the labour).
al4x
result, I'm no expert on the Nissans but its worth checking what the problem that caused the block to go was and that they have done the upgrade to stop it happening again. Its such a well known problem you don't want it happening again

J@mes
Got to admit that our Hilux's at work have been very reliable - 56 and 06 plates, but they are very uncomfortable off road! The ride is very crashy.

Got quotes of £1.5k to £2k for a recon engine (that didnt include the labour). so nissan are obviously aware of the problem so is it cured on the new short block or on recons if you bought one? deako01
Was fixed by a main dealer so sure hope the problem is fixed. I believe it was a dodgy batch of engines but would be p*ssed if it went again. I am sure I would have got shot of it by then though. Tam
Big end shells made of wrong material resulting in reduced lubrication  (if i remember correctly - not enough lead?)

Got quotes of £1.5k to £2k for a recon engine (that didnt include the labour). My 05 Navara engine blew so I phoned the nissan customer services and They told mr to take it to the nearest dealership. It was out of warranty and had 87K on the clock but they put a new short engine in and I didnt have to pay a penny, not even towards labour. All done on a goodwill guarantee!! Brill service. That was Richmond Motor Company in North Yorkshire.
ashley c
Hi id take it back after 1000 miles for a oil change and check over for diesel leaks and coolant nuts and bolts ect. The problem with these navara d22 is a o ring in the oil pump from 60-70k miles after a lots of heat cycles the o ring goes hard and very brittle and loose its seal on the block so the oil dose not get to the big end shells then yep they snap the rods. The d40s don't suffer the same problems my advice is keep the oil changed about every 6-7k miles I've had no problems with my d40 and i don't drive it to soft
larson
only on the d22 i belive

Depends on a few things but I didnt buy my car from a Nissan dealership or get it serviced at a Nissan dealership so only got the parts covered. Going back in to the dealership at the weekend to give it the once over.
