Zapp
Guys I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts/experiences on V8 Discos that have been converted to autogas. Are they any good? What is the MPG like? What are the pitfalls? Thanks
Yorkshire Pudding
Zapp It's a 3.9 . As to the pitfalls , it's a landrover ( please be aware this is the green oval that i love and own , have done for the last 8 years ) . You'll love it ! If it makes you smile , wha tmore do you want ? All the best yis yp :yp:
ProteuS
The 3.9 is just a bored out 3.5 really, Good unit, shouldn't be a problem if well maintained. Some claim the lpg burns a bit hotter so the cooling system has to be upto scratch. Being a big v8 it will probably be ES trim or the likes, very pleasant inside and comfortable, but lots of electrics to keep fiddling with if you want it all to work. Sequential injection gas systems are the best and will give you the best performance and economy when well set up. Depending whereabouts you are, sometimes it can be difficult to find an lpg station, particularly if it is late or you're somewhere reasonably remote. If the tank is in the back (better if you're going to be venturing off road) then it does take up a bit of space. Discoveries main problems tend to be rot. Check the boot, seatbelt mounts etc. Otherwise they make a very tempting buy at a good price, and have the bonus of sounding terrific. Mungler
Don't be silly pike. Everyone at some stage toys with the idea of a large engine Land Rover or Range Rover and gas. The long and the short is that unless you are a budding mechanic and philanthropist you want to be looking at something diesel and probably japanese
al4x
how long has it been on gas Zapp? Our experience is 100K on our vans and they are knackered, most do 25mpg on gas and 35 on petrol, I now run most on petrol as I got fed up of engine rebuilds and dodgy sensors week in week out. Now running on petrol they are still congestion charge exempt so all is rosy In this case you would need to check it runs properly on gas and then bank on it doing at least 10% less on gas than on petrol probably less. As mungler intimated diesel is the way forward and without the green oval
THE MEK
heard they are susceptible to cracked blocks overheating probs. thats what has stopped me anyway :(
RC45
Had one, for some reason mine never liked the gas. I know of some that ran without problems but mine was a pain. I now have a 300TDI which I use for shooting n stuff, can't say I would trust one for everyday use. Phil
Zapp
Thanks for the feedback guys. I've done a bit more research into these and it looks as though the boot-tank would probably take up more space than I can afford to sacrifice. Back to the drawing board. J@mes
Just get a TDi, they end up costing the same to run anyway!
Fuji Shooter
mines been on gas now for 10years, just make sure you have the twin Kenlowe fans are you are away. I have a couple of 30 litre tanks under the car and it will do 120 miles between fills.
