Spam emails being sent from my yahoo account

Hi all

 

As title suggests one of my contacts received an email this morning that appeared to come from my Yahoo account.

 

If they have access to my email contacts does this mean I've got a virus?

 

I've got virus software on my computer and the only other place I access emails is on iphone but don't open links on emails on there.

 

Any suggestions before any more dodgy emails get sent to friends.

First thing to do is change your password

 

Sounds like a like a bit of malware is sending out viagra emails.

 

Worth checking to see if the emails were only sent whilst your computer was on. If not, delete as many emails as possible and just keep the ones you need.

Wife had this a month or so ago.

 

She set up a new email account.

Happened to my daughter on hotmail used her addy as a return address. Had to set up a gmail account and bin hotmail

It happened to me on hotmail before christmas, i just changed my password and not had any problems since

Billy - sent them out while computer was off at home although was possibly using on my iPhone? Why will deleting my emails help?

 

Don't want to delete my email account as I've had it for years and it would be a proper pain in the *** to change.

 

I'll change my password and see what happens. In fact sounds like time for a whole sale change of some of my important passwords.

I'm not being my usual biased Apple self, but the iPhone will not send out malicious emails. The only known Malware ever successfully deployed, worked only on jailbroken devices and it was a photo of Rick Astley that filled your screen

I have had this happen to my from my aol account and a year ago from my eBay account, I am very careful with my passwords and up to date virus checkers, both aol and eBay said problem was my end but I don't see how, laptop never leaves the house and as I said I hide my passwords, after incidents I did change both passwords too I think an unguessable one and have had no problems since, a guy at work is always having Viagra spam sent to all his contacts , but he is very lax with everything.

Makes me very nervous leaving anything important on the net.

I had this with my yahoo account - I downloaded a programme called MALWARE BYTES which removed the malware causing it and it's not happened since. It picked up items that AVG had missed.
