crafty fox

Ok, Ive turned into my driveway a few times and seen this massive dog fox skulking about the field a few times in the past 2 weeks. Hes a big boy, I could see him over the sugarbeet from 100 yards away, and he runs as soon as the headlamps swing round,so hes lampshy and an old one with lots of knowledge. The drive is about 200 yards long, and my house is at the bottom with the big field opposite it (next to the driveway), this has now been ploughed and topped, so nice and smooth. Doing loads of work around the house so it has got a full set of scaffolding around it, so it shouldnt be a problem when wanting to shoot him as I can get high and a good position.

What I want to know is how can I shoot him without waiting around all night. Im quite experienced when it comes to foxes.

I have several options I have thought:-

1) Bait an area everyday, and leave an alarm clock there with some fishing line attached to the back of the battery, so when he takes the bait the wire will pull the battery out of the clock and I will get a rough time over a week and wait for him around this time. Alot of effort but may be worth it.

2) Use some kind of sensor attached to the bait while im in the house and when hes taking it I can nip out, get my old man to lamp quickly and bosh.

3) Use a cage trap and check everyday.

Please advise me on what you would do.

well you know the time he crosses the feild already by your head lights. i would bait a area and check it on the hour to see when it is gone. then the hour it goes is the hour he will return the next night .it may well not take it till late into the night then thats another story . but remember a fox has a small stomach and needs to feed often and may well return to baited area within 45 mins :good:

Creatures of habbit. Buy a security light with motion detector from ebay fo a few pounds strap it to a tree/post ect bait up infront of it for a few weeks check a few times if the baits gone on the night the once you've established a time sit and wait. Fox comes light comes on fox is used to the light coming on you shoot simple

hi there you can buy cameras to record movement. you strap it to a tree where you think the fox travels. look at the pictures at the end of the week, you should see a pattern. set your self up half an hour before the most common time. thats what i would do. here is a site that sells the cameras.
