Curly87
When it comes to shotguns mostly when firing at clays, i find the barrel gets pretty hot especially when using the auto, can this cause any damage to the gun? at the moment i always let it cool down, but what would happen if you kept going? Kenzie
I think you should be fine,Myself and miffy sometimes shoot in "the alamo" at our clubs clay shoot. I got it's name because of the volume of shooting done at clays in such a short period of time. With my fusion i can shoot around fifty shells in under 3 or 4 minutes and have had nothing apart from burnt fingers of the barrells. Curly87
alright cheers for that gives me abit of peace of mind, its very easy to rattle through many shells in surprising little time when using the 6 shot auto, so much fun tho!!
Devilishdave
You should be fine due to the time it takes to reload allowing some time for heat disopation. A machine gun can get so hot that you can see the bullets traveling down the glowing hot barrel. This is seconds before total catastrophic melt down and I recomend this only ever viewd remotely from film footage Dave

I've just got back from a simulated day, & i can tell you that each gun fired around 75-90 shots each, in about 8 minutes with someone stuffing fresh cartridges in for you & my barrels were too hot to touch! This was the same for the other 5 drives of the day, and my gun was fine.

Curly87
Got my auto on my FAC, its a 6 shot beast Really good for unleashing on pigeons from the hide , or just consuming vast amount of shells on clays, and it only cost me 50 new traded in my crossbow for it after realising how costly and pointless it was

I've been told the same Frank. My old Corporal said that when a barrel was about to be changed they were allowed to do this. The barrel gets white hot and like Dave says you can see each round as it travels down the barrel :o I wouldn't want to be the one pulling the trigger mind you. What have you got it for ? Practical shotgun use or are you a pest controller ? If so why are you asking about how hot the barrel gets ? You must be very inexperienced pest controller or PSUK or have been around using a multi shot for a while? And why are you are asking the questions ? I smell the brown stuff me thinks ? You have not much experience if you are asking questions like this being a section 1 holder Jonno Edited April 2, 2006 by jonno
Curly87
rite i dont hang around much when i want summit, which is why i wasted x amount of money on a crossbow. Anyway i got a SAC when i was 15, as my grandpa decided to give me a side by side 12g AYA. I had that for about 6 months then decided to get a bettinsoli O/U, which i used mostly for pheasants. Then just after that i applied and got a FAC as my uncle had a cz that he didnt need any more, we live on his farm so it all worked out very well. About a month later i went out lamping with some guys from other farms one of which had a 3 shot escort auto, which i loved. I didnt really want a 3 shot as i already had my O/U and i had to change my FAC anyway cus at that time i could only hold 200 rimmy rounds, which is now changed to 700. At the same time i put down a 6 shot auto as well, and i got it back with in 2 weeks no questions asked. As for the hot barrels I no by all means that I am not experienced on every part of shooting and that’s why I think this is such an awesome site, if u don’t ask u will never know. When ever they got really hot i just left them to cool down for a bit. Here is a pic of all my guns i own at the mo, auto 2nd down it probs doesnt prove much but thought u might like to see anyways. sold my side by side to a mate shud be getting back soon EDIT: sorry pic quailty is rubish taken on my phone camera Edited April 2, 2006 by lloydt87
