BlaserF3
My gun has 3" chambers and I use Hull 21gm fibre with no problems at all. This combination will break the longest target at Blackpool easily, I was very suprised myself with the results at such a distance.

I`ve not got much experience of Fibre other than a 83x100 shot at Bisley a few years ago with these as the only option. The breaks were horrible and it was only afterwards that I remembered reading the chamber thing on more than one occasion and from different sources. Krieghoff advise plastic in their guns and one article in Sporting Gun told of nasty blown patterns over an extended test period(when put through 3" guns such as the 682E). There is just something about them, too many good sporting shooters hate them with a passion.
seeker
....There is just something about them, too many good sporting shooters hate them with a passion. Agreed ... but I'm not sure what? Was told by Barry Simpson that the difference between the P & F version of a particular cartridge was ".. a bird n a half for a drive n a half" ... when I posted the comment someone quoted the web site which showed identical m/v s. but in the field Barrys experienced advice was spot on. Not an issue if you stick with one or t'other, but its a bit like switching brands or guns - where's the consistency? but then I'm happy shooting most lowerer (perceived by me) recoiling, less expensiver cartriddge - but I'm convinced red ones go better. BlaserF3
One of my favourite grounds is on farmland and it's a fibre wad only shoot, so I don't really have a choich. I used to shoot plastic and fibre where applicable and there was a difference in breaks with some targets, but not enough to matter to me. This is it you see, figures on paper don't always equate to real life! One or two recent reports seemed to suggest a slightly tighter pattern from Fibre loads compared to plastic, so maybe you just need to really look hard to find a compatible one! Not saying of course that a tight pattern is what you must aim for anyway, but the experienced shooters can hit close stuff easily enough so tend to judge shells on what they can do at distance. One thing I have found though is that plastic shells tend to kick less, more than likely because of the collapsible wad arrangement. The noise seems a bit different too I think and the confetti can be a distraction.

Guest cookoff013
Hull Comp X plastic 7.68Ns 344bar wow. that is a really low pressure. really low. 5000 psi, that must be one fast powder to burn clean, at that psi. those light loads have great speed anyway. wow. respect ! utectok
Personally I have to shoot fibre as it is farmland mostly where I shoot but I like the gamebore xlr 8s and I'd have to say breaks look more spectacular with 28 gm carts and plas wads etc but surely a break is a break? If I can see a visable chunk of clay leave it counts and I'm happy with that.
HDAV
So .. what happened .. all bruised or battered from the beating you got from the ladies ? Well 2 dropped out before we left of the 6 of us the 4 guys no problem, 2 girls struggled a bit one only had 6 shots so they shared a box of 25 the whole slab went and some good breaks with the HV fibre not too much confetti, one girly had a bit of a bruise gun fit was an issue but always is with rentals next if those 2 ladies come again they'll have a 20 bores

Just make sure the gun fits better. AFAIK even the Hull Subsonic 20g cartidges are 23g fibre, and put through a lighter gun will probably result in more felt recoil. HDAV
I had tried to reserve a 26" browning but ended up with a slightly cut down Lincoln 27" not as nice as the browning and too low in the comb if I had the money I would get a "lady Jane" http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/110317134610820 Edited May 1, 2011 by HDAV

Plenty of push on pads/comb raisers around for not a lot of money. Should do the trick on a temporary basis? Get in touch with Clayman on here, he sells loads of that sort of stuff. HDAV
Inherent issue with 6 people sharing 3 guns 2 of which aren't mine! As their unlikely to buy a gun or shoot regularly not much can be done
soupdragon
If recoil is the issue, there is a much simpler answer. My lad had been struggling with the recoil from a 12g shootin 21g plaswad loads, I went out and bought him a start recoil pad that he can wear under a jumper, shirt or even on top. That morning, he went on to shoot more than I did, big smiles from both of us and his hit rate became decent. Nice to get a product that is as good as it says. They are ambidextrous, easy to wear and at only £35 a bit of a bargain. Dave Edited May 2, 2011 by soupdragon
COACH
You need 21g Comp X. A gun with a soft, short recoil pad. A Musto or alike shoulder pad. straps over the shoulder of anyone. I use this combination for youngsters to shoot on my Have a Go stands at charity and game fair shoots. It works a treat.
HDAV
Yeah no comp X to be had locally, it was 28g compx eley subs or 21g express ( which I went for)
