stubby
to a degree, yes 12g sub sonic cartridges, are what the gun was made to fire, yes you can use anything really, but unless your using subs, why buy a hushpower
Catweazle
If you're after ultimate quietness then use Subsonics ( like Hushpower ), but you will still get a sound reduction if you use normal cartridges.
Guest cookoff013
subs, are what reloaders can make better than factory. there is a few threads about subsonic loads. use the search. key word subsonic
Guest kenny
As long as you use Fibre Wads You can put what you want through it as for noise not much of a difference between the two look at the price
3jackwhite3
id say no, through my hushpower if i use clay cartridges it is a bit louder than if i use game cartridges but theres very little difference between normal game cartridges and subsonics. stubby
Ill disagree with the above posts, there is a noticable difference in noise between sub-sonic carts and any others which people deciede to stick in them, maybe not as the shooter, but definetly from 30yds away, onlookers/pedestrians etc, which is the whole point of getting/using a hushpower, for areas with noise issues,
Guest kenny
Looks like I will be loading my one with both and getting a mate to fire it when I am about 20 or 30 yards away
drut
Problem with 12g subsonics is lack of choice,Eley 32gm 6 "Hushpowers" were the best I could find but inconsistent batch to batch and often low on velocity.I did find some of the lighter normal game loads nearly as quiet and more effective.Reloading definitely gives the best results:you can adjust velocity/load/shot size to your own needs. activeviii
anyone have a cheap recipe for 12g subs please. i have a reloader and cases so just need the magic to go in them. Phil.
Guest cookoff013
there was a cheap recipe for subs here. i personaly love hodgdons titewad, it is a fast burning powder. i looked for some data and concieved 12gauge 15 grains of titewad, 32grams of #4. for a very hard hitting subsonic. the other option was vectan AS at ~17 grains and 32grams of shot. the 32g shot charge is quite high for these powders, but, the reduced powder charge gives enough for clean burn (enough pressure), and enough speed for good subsonic. i dont like the 28g. there was a great thread about it, i think i started the conversation. check it out. there is some fantastic opinions and recipes. i think they are all 12gauge though. i personaly like hodgdons titewad, but vectan AS is the cheaper option. as the powder is cheap er per lb/kg and per shot. Guest kenny
As people keep saying you have to use Hushpower cartages to get the best results I decided to test this I used my phone that has a sound meter on it so results are not gospel but this is what I got 12 Meters to the side...........Hushpower barrel................Normal barrel Hushpower Cartridge.............93DB............................95DB Eley VIP........................91DB............................96DB Express Somerset................91DB............................96DB The wind had really picked up for this one 2 Meters in front...............Hushpower barrel...............Normal barrel Hushpower Cartridge.............92DB...........................99DB Eley VIP........................87DB...........................107DB Express Somerset................87DB...........................91DB So make your own minds up I know what I think remember this is not scientific results but good enough for me I had all ready decided to stop using Hushpower cartridges anyway Cheers Kenny

That doesn't relate to my experience with Hushpower barrels or cartridges.
Guest kenny
I did say that it was not gospel was on a windy clay range
Skid
Also bear in mind that for each 3 decibels increase that the sound level doubles in intensity to anyone listening so it does make a big difference
