Cranfield
Wheat stubble is excellent for decoying pigeons (and rooks/crows). The birds are usually on it very quickly and so are the the sensible pigeon shooters, before the farmer discs it in. :(

shoughton
My best shooting days of 2010 were on the wheat stubble - fantastic for at least a fortnight. It was a shame that I couldn't take more days off of work at the time as a few more days would have been great.
fenboy
Funny how some think its great, yet others like myself have never really had a decent day on it I dont know why clearly some do very well on it,like every thing pigeon shooting related it just depends on the amount of birds in the area , no doubt if you can get on a flightline crossing a wheat field no doubt you could get several, I once shot 80+ decoying on a ploughed field because the birds were crossing it to and from some rape. Hamster
Wheat stubble is as good as anything else so long as you have moving traffic. In fact it can be better even than rape stubble where the tall stems can make presentation difficult.

The only time i think wheat stubble is a better bet than rape stubble is when it is left over winter - good bags can still be made in October /november. Other than that, i would rather shoot on rape stubble every time. I did have one good day on wheat stubble in 2008 (202), but it was the last wheat probably in Norfolk to be cut. Presentation on rape stubble is easy - just put your decoys on top of the rape stalks.
