Frenchieboy
I have been thinking of fitting my O/U with one of the "Optical Bead Type Sights" (As per this one ; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HS-SIGHT-RIB-BEAD-MOST-SHOTGUN-S-SCREWS-4-PIPES-/310321002466?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item484092b7e2 instead of the standard brass bead. Does anyone that uses them find that they are an advantage of are they just a "gimmic / bit of bling" please? Maybe I should say that the gun is used for both clays and for rough shooting in case that makes any difference!

I came across one on an Escort that a mate bought and although I didn't fire the gun the sight looked like it might improve the aim for me! Frenchieboy
that didnt take long frenchie where is the best place to buy these beads? The one that I was looking at is on good old fleabay as per the link on my original post. I had seen one in action on Richie's new Escort (Which he christened with the first shot through it while we were out together the other day - Well done Richie!) I only handled the gun but did not get round to firing it, however after looking down the barrel with the optical bead fitted I did feel that an optical bead on my O/U might just help me to hit something for a change! (If I ignore the pigeon that was only about 20 feet away in a tree above where we were sitting, it came down half plucked and ready gutted!) p.s. If you read this post Richie I have just had a farmer offer to pay me to shoot a fox that has been stealing his chicks - Could be another night out together)

If you have experience of that particular one what do you think of it with regards to value for money? Is it reasonable build quality of is it likely to let me down and need replacing please? I appreciate the generous offer mate but from what you are saying I think I might be better off buying a more expensive one that is going to last rather than fall appart in a short time (I can be a bit rough with my "rough shooting" shotguns). Thanks for the advice, you may well have saved me wasting a couple of quid!

Thanks for the advice, you may well have saved me wasting a couple of quid! it is really the black bead base what is rubbish frenchie the beads them selves are ok. iv been thinking of getting one of these bead sets. truglo beads are suppose to be good http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRUGLO-GLO-DOT-XTREME-UNIVERSAL-SHOTGUN-SIGHT-TG90X-/380332554289?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item588d963831 Edited May 27, 2011 by semiautolee
Frenchieboy
I've just had a look at the link. My only concern there is that if it is just a couple of magnets that hold it on is there a good chance that if you gave the gun a knock you might lose the lot or could you use a screw for extra security? officerdibble777
Iv'e had the first one on my o/u for just over a year, and it survived getting pulled out and put back in my gunslip at sporting and it's still stuck fast. The quality of materials is first class, mine is the 120mm in red and it's a good bright red the design allows a lot of light onto the fibre optic and when you mount your gun it helps you get it in the right position because of the light tube,a very good piece of kit,all I can say is try it,give it a few weeks of shooting and if you don't take to it you will get your money back if you ebay it john
Frenchieboy
That sounds like a pretty good recommendation John, thanks. On the strenght of that it looks like that is the one that I ought to be going for" Many thanks for your help and advice! Pete
Simon123
Some if not all Browning Maxus'es have the same type of one as the first link you posted mate. Although you can get a official browning one. When i used my pates Maxus, i liked the idea of having the optical bead sight as i seen it much easier to pick the sight up and i was picking things up much easier and hitting the better aswell . I might even put one on my Escort
Frenchieboy
I've now got one sorted out thanks to JC (PW Forum Member in Chorley). If I get on with it I might even get another for my SxS even though I would like to keep it in it's original "trim"! (After I have finished it's full restoration) Very kind and thoughtfull of you James! Thanks everyone for all of your advice and comments! dk6052
I use the browning birdbuster, unlike the other sights I have used this one has 4 "light pipes" of different shapes (normal sized round and wide triangle) different colours. You do not need to remove your existing bead as this fits magnetically behind the bead. Just search "birdbuster" on ebay.

Frenchieboy
I've finally got round to trying the Ruby Sight on the Over and Under with a little crow shooting! The birds were very slow in coming over as I could not get on the flight line but using the Ruby Sight on the gun I fired 6 shots for 5 birds (One of the birds, a large crow was a very high bird and landed with a crash hitting the side of the hide, I thought it was going to join me in the hide). For me the Ruby Sight is a great improvement! I also found that it was easier shooting with both eyes open, something that I don't normally do! I have to say that at this stage I am very impressed with the Ruby Sight! I would like to give a special thanks to James (JC) for putting trust in me and sending the brand new Ruby Sight straight away (And at a real bargain price), the payment is on it's way to you James, thank you so much! James (JC) is a real credit to this forum!
