Certificate price raise

Recommended Posts

I think it's strange that they want to raise the price of certificates so that yobs can't get hold of shotguns and rifles when its the police who interview them to see if there suitable for this privallidge

It's just so they make more money out of people

Any one else agree

Where did you see that it's to put it out of reach of the 'poor' yobs?

I was told it was a matter of it costing more for the Police to administer than they were charging, a simple matter of economics, they didn't want your application for a SGC/FAC to cost them money.

Last year, the firearms officer warned me that the price of certificates would be going up. The current charges don't cover the police's costs. I've heard a couple of people say that the charge will have to go to about £150 to make economic sense! Not nice, but in the current economic and political situation, no one's going to argue that anyone, and particularly gun owners, should not pay the going rate.

I believe that the BASC are campaigning on this though. They are saying, "Ok, if the prices have to rise then, in return, we need to have a consistent standard of service from the police across the country - and a consistent interpretation of firearms legislation." That sounds fair. Firearms and shotgun applications across the border in Wiltshire seem to take twice as long as they do here in Hampshire. And police in Cumbria weren't criticised for allowing Derek Bird to own guns, despite his criminal record. Here, I've heard that a speeding ticket will result in a visit from the firearms officer to review your suitability to own guns.
