Dirty Harry
A mate has one and he really likes it. I use the petrol VRS at work and thy are really good and reliable motors. Only things I don't like is the trim can seem a bit cheep to the equivalent BMW or Audis but for the money they are very good.
Spiderdude
Got a new vRS estate a few months back, diesel and return about 45mpg on average, up to 60 on motorway runs. I have the DSG version as well and love the car. I expect the 4x4 version to be equally as good. 1st service was £240 and that was after 18k miles which I clocked up after 4 months. I would highly recommend the Octavia estate.
Dead-Eyed Duck
I had an Octavia 4 x 4 estate (petrol) when they 1st came out - about 8 years ago. 120,000 miles in 3 years and didn't miss a beat. The ground clearance wasn't brilliant (and I didn't expect it to be) but it did well on most 'reasonable' terrain. Shot a lot of rabbits out of it. One reason why I now run a Yeti
J@mes
If you want to make it EVEN safer in the winter, run proper winter tyres. The difference is night and day compared to normal year-round tyres!

owdnorthener
I have been looking for one the past few weeks after hearing how good they were. I test drove an Octavia 1.9 tdi, which didnt have 4x4, only the traction control. Even so, I am well impressed and now looking for one at my price ...... If you look on autotrader, then after selecting a car to look at, you can get reviews on them. They seem to score very well and at a competitive price. Good luck, Alan
