Norrie
Hiya, My first attempt at building a Larsen trap.....I had an old one to use as a template...and managed to reuse the springs and rods off it..seemingly the springs originally came off a gin trap.... Any ideas where to get the springs from, as I've got a couple more to build.,.. Not quite finished yet.. Finished now..
Beretta28g
The call bird MUST have shelter.
Catamong
I've got springs in the past from the Game Conservancy, Google them, I presume they still sell them. A few tips on the trap you've made: * Use longer trip perches, the ones you're using are too short, the flaps do not appear to be fully open..?? * Put an extra perch in the call bird compartment, so the call bird can hop from one to the other, more movement = more birds attracted. * I would also suggest you screw a ply sheet above one half of the catch compartment, to give the call bird some shelter when it rains, otherwise the call bird will get soaking wet, not a good idea, if you look at the plans supplied by the Game Conservancy, they show a ply roof, you don't want to get nobbled on an animal cruelty charge..? They also recommend a ply vertical divider between the 2 catch compartments, so any trapped birds can't peck each other to pieces. Fitting these extras won't affect your ability to catch magpies, I had one such trap in my back garden recently and caught 63 maggies between the end of March and mid July. :o Cat. highseas
and if/when you put longer perches in it make shure they cant wedge the door open when the trap goes off
