Sussexboy
Had my first karate lesson last night. Didn't feel too bad afterwards for a 46 year old fat bloke. BUT......this morning.................................... I really don't remember being run over by a truck, must have happened in my sleep. Frenchieboy
Oregame(Sp) lesons might leave you feeling a bit less battered and bruised the following morning mate, unless of course you think the rabbits are going to start fighting back! Seriously - Fair play to you mate, I'm led to believe that it is a great way of keeping fit - As long as Mrs. Frenchieboy doesn't try taking it up, I could be in real trouble there! Thunderbird
Yeah don't try and kick as high as the young guys, you'll ache in places you never know you had. Easy to pick up a hip or shoulder strain (e.g. tendonitis) that can niggle you for ages..

Sussexboy
Well done Why have you waited till 46 yrs old to start ,i did full contact karate but retired at age 38 because it just got so that one ache blended in to the next I never had time before!! Seriously though, I was always playing sport or being active when younger, but since gaining the higher echelons of multi national management I am getting fat behind a desk. I tried running, gym, swimming (hated it) but it always seemd like training for nothing. So I decided to do something where the training had an aim. No wish to compete, I just want structured disciplined exercise while learning something useful.

BUT......this morning.................................... I really don't remember being run over by a truck, must have happened in my sleep. Where are you training, and what attracted you to it. At a mere 42 years of age I am looking at some form of interesting fitness training rather than gym bashing! *Yawn* PM me if you prefer. Catweazle
Karate made me uncomfortable, I would walk up to a bar and always know who was near me and if I had room to turn and block. It was probably due to the style of the instructor, but I was much happier when I gave it up.
vole
I did kickboxing in my 40.s . Loved it , especially the sparring . Always been good at push ups but I found doing 100 + at that age gave me a bad case of Tennis AND Golfers' elbow on both arms . I did not want it to hinder my shootin or fishing so reluctantly packed it in . Well done but mind your joints . Still got the elbow problems despite the physiotherapy . Sussexboy
Mongrel - I am training over in Rye. It is being run by a club called Canton Martial Arts. They have dojos all over the south coast, based in Eastbourne. Couple of mates do karate with some other clubs, I was impressed with their training, then we had a flyer through the door about this new dojo starting in Rye on an evening that I could make on a regular basis. Seemed to good not to give it a go. Like you, I need something to train for to keep the interest up.
