dannywayoflife
Hi guys, I'm thinking about buying a add on unit to use for bunnys on my hmr. I understand that with normal nv if there is any artificial light about it damages the unit and since it will be mostly used on my new permission which has a road next to it it could potentially be wrecked by the car head lights. Because of this I am thinking about a digital unit. Are there any such add on units available? Thanks Danny
al4x
what sort of budget are you looking at? I've just bought a starlight archer second hand and seems pretty good so far, just need harvest to start to give it a proper trial. The big plus point of an add on that is easy to remove is you can scan with it without waving the rifle about.
dannywayoflife
The archer isn't digital tho. Any light from cars etc apparently damage the tube.
al4x
its not but being removable you have fewer issues with having it on all the time and using your dayscope you retain a decent scope during the day rather than having to put up with a low mag digital job just so you can have NV
dannywayoflife
Hmm I am tempted by a add on would my clusion blazerlite with a ir filter provide a good enough light? Is the cobra merlin any good?

dannywayoflife
Think I'll save up as my new permission ( a local golf course) is over run with uber bunnys! And they are pretty lamp shy. Even though I dint think they've been shot for a while. If I could do it with nv then my bags will triple!
cooter
I have a Cobra which I have been using for about three years, and I bought it second hand. Over the years I have lost count of the times it has had the laser bounced back off very close fence posts, headlights, street lights and the headligts off the truck shone into it, and it still works well enough. I think people can be a little over protective about them, but if you can afford digital then that's the way to go.
dannywayoflife
Cooter, thanks for that that's the sort of info I wanted.
bennyblanco
The archer isn't digital tho. Any light from cars etc apparently damage the tube. Remember that you would have to be pointing your rifle at the car for the tube to be damaged Unless you shoot in urban areas or round buildings with automatic security lights you won't have a problem. Also gen2's up will automatically dim to protect the tube/your vision although its obviously foolish to use them in potentially bright conditions, I am yet to be sold on any of the digital stuff I have seen.
