rocksaplenty
I have a lot of hare, venison, and pigeon in the freezer that I need to clear out. So I would like to make into game pies. Do I just slowly boil the meat in a large pot for a couple of hours peel the meat off the bone and then put into shortcrust pastry? Then cook for a while? Thanks
pete evans
you will need some sort of gravy otherwise it will be a bit dry.

rocksaplenty
Thanks. My other question is: is there such a thing as a mini metal detector for detecting if there is any shot left in meat?
new to the flock
Rocksaplenty; Debone your meat as you are going to want tobrown it with your spices, mushrooms, onions, red wine etc in a pot. To check for shot place the meat on some wax paper and place in the microwave for 5 to 15 seconds. If there is any shot presant it will cause an arc and the wax paper will mark where it is in the meat. NTTF

new to the flock
Rocksaplenty; Just reread that post....be sure to lay wax paper under the meat but also place a piece over the top of the meat. NTTF
Hairy Pat
Remove the breasts from the pigeons fry to seal them then add them to the pie wrapped in fat bacon, it should stop them drying out. Same with cassaroles. Pat
