30-6
On a farm local to me which i have a walk around now and then, on talking to the farmer he commented on him seeing more rabbits than usual. Bear in mind this is a small acreage farm of about 150 acres so no "hundreds" of rabbits. To keep him happy went out with the .17 hmr but shot only 2 rabbits, the noise seemed to disturb the rest. Next time decided to take the .22 lr, had one at about 50 yds and another one 5 yds further on didn't flinch, even with the slap of the impact, so had him as well, ended up with 6. Took the .22 a second time seen a rabbit too far away, got to within about 75 yds ( my zero ), 1st shot missed, 2nd shot missed, 3rd shot bowled him over. Ended up with 7 rabbits. So on my small permissions the .22 seems to reign on the noise factor.
artschool
cant beat a 22 with a mod. 75 yards is quite a long zero.
30-6
I find 50 yds zero i seem to miss more, and remember reading an article specifically on .22 subs, stating 75 yds is the ideal zero, giving you ( on a upright target, that is, rabbit up on back legs ), aiming for kneck a big target area if your range is out which could give you a high or low shot, meaning a hit in head, kneck or chest would be a kill. Works for me. Saying that though, the scope i have recently put on goes like this, 75 yds centre zero, one milldot above is 25 yds and bracket between one milldot above and centre zero is 50 yds, those are my three aim points and seem to be knocking them down ok. Grandalf
.22 CZ with varmint barrel. Always zero'd at 70yds. Winchester or Eley rounds. Fabulous QUIET little rifle. The right tool for vermin control - Nothing flashy. No need to shoot beyond 80 yds.
TaxiDriver
Having bought a 100metre tape at the weekend, I've now had a measure of where I usually sit up and snipe bunnies, it turns out to be only 35-40metres :o Well within range of my FAC air I reckon ? I'd love to be able to use my CZ 22lr to take bunnies consistantly at further distances but a 75-100yrd zero wouldn't be practical due to the lay of the land/footpaths and line of sight.
