mudpatten
Gents, Thank you for the inquiries. A couple of quick points. Since you are reading this you may well live within striking distance of Chichester Harbour. Ask yourself,"Do I have access to so much shooting for the coming season that I do not need any more?" If the answer is "No",what is your preferred reason for not joining? And for those of you who are relative newcomers to field shooting and are interested in wildfowling but are slightly overawed by something so apparently complicated, rest assured,we will guide you through your first season in the sport with a comprehensive training package. At the end of your first season your fieldcraft, bird identification, wildfowling skills and confidence will have improved out of all recognition and you will wonder why you put off joining for so long! -Mongrel-
To be honest with you, currently, my main reason is I'm waiting to get paid! I'm well overdue payment on a decent size job and it's non-appearnace is making life a little awkward right now. I do intend joining just as soon as I resolve the problem. mudpatten
Cheers mate, thanks for that. I do hope you manage to get your outstanding payment sorted out. I know how difficult that can be. If the problem persists as we get closer to the start of the season perhaps you could let me know and we can have a look at the options open to us. wildrefowl
Mongrel, I've been a member of Chichester wildfowlers for over 3 years now and to be honest I wished I had known about it a lot sooner. Getting out onto the marsh in the early hours of the morning, before the world has woken up, waiting for the sunrise and then seeing the first silhouette of a duck whistle past, is something that I'll never tire of. I do hope you get your membership sorted out, but when you do, give me a shout and I'll take you out...
busa2003
what is the latest time you can join for the new season?
mudpatten
Still plenty of time to join now before the start of the season. I suppose that the latest one could join economically would be about the start of November. This would still leave 3 and a half months shooting before the end of the season in mid Feb. Unfortunately it is not possible to do a sliding scale of fees for joining late in the season as it is too complex to administer, so, if you joined on the last day of the February foreshore extension,it would still cost the same as joining before the 1st of September for that same season. There are 2 New Member meetings scheduled for the evening of the first Mondays of Sept. and Oct. I can give you more information if you`d care to PM me. I do hope you seriously consider joining. Fowling is surely THE most fun you have with all your clothes on, and a gun in your hand! ...and just to echo what wildrefowl says. I`ve been a fowler for 40 years and I still get exited about going! mudpatten
It`s been pointed out to me that the web address for the club should be www.SWAWMA.com and not what I put originally. Take a look at our new website if you`ve got a minute to spare.
mudpatten
It looks like we may well be in for another excellent season with good numbers of mallard and canadas having been bagged by club members already. We`ve even had a wigeon shot on the 1st! There is a new members meeting this coming Monday evening with another, the last, in early October. It is still not too late to join. I know I`ve said this before but it still holds true. If your shooting diary is full for the coming season with invited, or bought, days pheasant shooting for three or four days a week, then you probably won`t be interested in wildfowling. But if it is`nt and your only shooting is of those notoriously difficult to decoy, huge midwinter flocks of pigeon then joining a fowling club,SWAWMA, will open doors to a whole new world of shooting opportunity. mpk
Couldn't agree more, had a fantastic morning flight today. Can't beat seeing those ducks coming in with the sunrise behind them
wildrefowl
Also had a good flight, on Sunday night I shot my first Mallard of the season, and could have probably bagged another couple had I not been keeping an eye on my young dog retrieving the duck! The harbour certainly seems to be alive with duck, which is very exciting, considering it's only the begging of the season...
mpk
Couldn't agree more had my first of the season this morning but could have shot a few more if I also was not watching my young lab. Quite a lot around considering and the weather helped alot .
wildrefowl
Went out this morning down the harbour. I decided that I would try a different spot to normal and as the Mallard started to appear they went straight over were I would have normally gone! Luckily a pair did come my way, but I managed to miss! Just to rub salt into the wound 2 bunchs of 5 geese also went over my usual spot!!! Still, was a cracking morning and good to see so many duck and geese around, and I've only got my self to blame for coming home with nothing. I have heard good things about those marshes too just intrigued to see how it's going up their as I may join both next season. There were quite a few packs of teal about when I went out on Sunday evening - Because of the strong S/W wind it mean't they were coming through fast and low, making them a very challenging target! mpk
Quite a bit here too, popped out Sunday am and had a group of ducks fly straight over my left shoulder 6ft of the marsh........couldn't re-act quick enough
